Former Monaghan captain Owen Lennon has joined Malachy O'Rourke's backroom team for 2017.

The Gaelic Life reports that Lennon, who retired from inter-county duty last January, will join Colin McAree in the Derrylin man's management team for the coming season following the departure of selector Finbarr Fitzpatrick.

This year saw Lennon make his managerial bow with his native Latton, guiding them to a senior championship victory over would-be winners Scotstown.

During his playing career the robust midfielder captured two Ulster SFC titles with the Farney County, captaining them to a first provincial title in 25 years in 2013.
