Scotstown 0-18, Carrickmacross 0-12.

Scotstown's aspirations of retaining the Mick Duffy Cup are back on track following this 6 points victory over Carrickmacross in a fairly run-of-the-mill affair in Aughnamullen yesterday and a result that sees Carrickmacross exit the series. Led by the Hughes brothers, Darren at full forward, who finished with 6 points and Kieran at centre back, Scotstown always held an edge after racing into a 5 points lead in the opening 6 minutes. Scotstown led at half-time by 0-12 to 0-7 with Carrickmacross upping the tempo somewhat in the second-half and enjoying plenty of possession but ultimately lacking the firepower to turn it around completely. They got the margin down to 3 ten minutes into the 2nd half but that was as good as it got with tempers then threatening to flare in the closing stages and Scotstown finishing the game with 14 players following the dismissal of Fergal McPhillips on a straight red card.

Ballybay 2-15, Truagh 0-4.

Ballybay experienced little difficulty in booking their place in the semi-final of the senior football championship at the expense of Truagh in this quite one sided encounter in Clontibret yesterday evening. Ballybay more or less had things wrapped up at the halfway stage, when they led by 1-9 to 0-2, the goal by Shane McGuinness a minute into stoppage time, at the end of a flowing move started by full back Ryan Wylie. In the second-half Ballybay continued to consolidate with Paul Finlay stroking over a series of frees and Truagh  just simply lacking the pace, power or penetration to trouble a well-organised Ballybay defence.

Teams and Scorers: Ballybay: S Gorman, B Wylie, R Wylie 1-0, C Lennon 0-1, m Hannon 0-2, D Wylie, M McArdle, C Galligan 0-2, T O'Neill, A Toner, C McGuinness 0-2, S McQuillan, S McGuinness 1-3, P Finlay 0-5 (3f), B McCabe 0-1. GREENFIELD FOODS SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Magheracloone 0-18, Latton 1-13.

Magheracloone booked their place in the semi-final of the senior football championship but they were clinging on by their fingertips at the end of this cliffhanger that was played in somewhat greasy conditions in Clontibret yesterday evening. While Latton started well it was Magheracloone who had the better of the exchanges for the bulk of the 1st half and they deservedly led by 0-12 to 1-4 at half time, the Latton goal courtesy of Darren McElroy in the 15th minute. In the second-half Latton made a real battle of it particularly after being reduced to 14 players with the dismissal of Christopher Rice on a red card at the end of the third quarter and they gradually whittled away at Magheracloone's lead in the final quarter, getting the margin down to 2 points entering the final minutes and both sides now down to 14 players after Magheracloone's Peter Tuite had been sent off on a 2nd yellow card. In the end though  Magheracloone held out with a late insurance point by Alan McCahey 2 minutes into stoppage time sealing victory.

Teams and Scorers: Magheracloone: D Kirk, J Lambe, P Ward, P McArdle, J McMahon, J Ward 0-1, P Tuite 0-2, J Kierans 0-1, G Doogan, N Babbington 0-1, K Rudden 0-1, A Kierans 0-2, P McMahon 0-2, T Freeman 0-7 (5f), A McCahey 0-1. Subs: B O'Brien for P Shannon, P Fitzpatrick for T Lynch, D Duffy for D McElroy. Referee: B Finnegan (Donaghmoyne).

GREENFIELD FOODS SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Clontibret 0-15 Monaghan Harps 0-9

Clontibret kept their championship aspirations on track with this Conor McManus-inspired six-point win over Monaghan Harps in Emyvale yesterday. McManus hit all but two points of Clontibret's tally as they advanced to the quarter final, outscoring their opponents by 0-10 to 0-4 in the second half. Clontibret were held scoreless in the opening quarter as the Harps made the better start, but four Conor McManus points helped them draw level at 0-5 apiece by half-time. The scores remained close for most of the second half until Clontibret pulled away in the closing stages, with McManus unerring from a series of frees as the Harps who managed seven of their points from play simply conceded too many scoreable frees. Clontibret now meet Scotstown in the quarter final while Monaghan Harps exit the series
