Cunningham ruled out of Farney clash

Down's full back Brendan McArdle and keeper Michael Cunningham with Cork's Colm O'Neill.

Down boss Eamonn Burns has confirmed that goalkeeper Michael Cunningham will miss their Ulster SFC quarter-final against Monaghan next month.

It had been hoped that the Castlewellan shot-stopper would recover from the recent knee injury he sustained on time for the trip to Clones on June 5th, but The Irish News reports that Burns last night ruled out any chance of his participation against the holders.

It's another headache for Burns, who has saw brothers Jerome and Ryan Johnston both on the injured list with shoulder problems, while forwards Caolan Mooney and Niall Madine have opted out of the panel completely.

U21 goalkeeper Mark Reid has been drafted into the panel to provide back up for Kilcoo's Steven Kane, who is now expected to occupy the number one jersey against the Farney men.
