Rockcorry club notes

Deepest Sympathy
On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the Rooney family on the passing of Nell Rooney. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
Eurotech Junior Football League
After last week's nail-biting and exciting championship final against Blackhill our senior footballers returned to action in the Eurotech junior football league when they entertained Aghabog last Saturday (3rd October) at Pairc Naomh Mhuire.  Both teams were missing a number of regular players through injuries but the match was fairly open and hugely entertaining where everyone gave it their all. Thankfully, the tension levels did not reach the painful heights of the final and therefore we watched, with interest, a fairly enjoyable match where both teams served up a feast of football.  There was very little between the two sides at the break as we enjoyed a three point lead, leading 1-9 to 1-6. All the lads appeared to enjoy the runout as they upped the intensity levels during the second period and secured the spoils on a score-line Rockcorry 1-17 Aghabog 1-12.
Ding-Ding Round 2 - Universal Graphics Junior Championship Final
Our focus will now obviously turn to the upcoming championship replay where we go head to head once again with Blackhill this Saturday 10th October. The game has been fixed for Clontibret and throw-in time is 4pm. In the film industry they say sequels never live up to the high expectations of the originals but there's always an exception to the rule...look at Godfather Part 2 or even the Star Wars classic 'The Empire Strikes Back'. I do believe that we are in store for another close, exciting, tense, nerve-wracking but mind-blowing game and I believe that this rollercoaster ride has the potential to be even better than the first. In this regard, I would like to extend my best wishes Mickey, Jimmy & Pascal and all the players and urge all our members and supporters to go along and cheer on the lads and be that extra man! Good luck lads, you have the ability now go out and do yourselves proud. Come on ROCK.
National Anthym
This Saturday will also be a special and memorable day for one of our young members Kayla Farrell who will get the opportunity to win the hearts of the supporters when she sings the National Anthem before the Junior Football Championship Final replay. Kayla is thirteen years old and is a native of the village and developed a love for singing at an early age. Kayla is a former Scor na bPaisti winner and she is a member of the Corcaghan Comhaltas and this year competed for Monaghan in the Ulster Fleadh. Kayla is also a member of the school choir in St Aidan's Comprehensive, Cootehill and the local parish choir in Holy Trinity. Well done Kayla, it's a lovely achievement and we look forward to hearing you belt out a lovely version of "Amhrán na bhFiann".
Congratulations
Following the recent announcement of the National Tidy Town results I want to congratulate the local Tidy Towns Committee who increased their points, once again, and topped Category A (under 200 population) with a wonderful and exceptional 289 points just beating Ardaghey on 285 and Drum on 282.It's not easy improving your points tally every year and it just goes to show the amount of hard work that goes on to keep the village looking spectacular. It does be a long year and the work programme runs the whole twelve months and while we only see the amazing blossom and the bright & colourful flowers during the summer months a lot of preparation work is carried out behind the scenes preparing planters and growing & watering flowers etc.In this regard, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Tom Daly and everyone involved with the Tidy Towns committee who have once again achieved a tremendous result in the competition. Community involvement and having pride in the way our village looks is very important and many thanks to all the volunteers for taking care of various patches around the village and for lifting litter and generally keeping the place nice and tidy to ensure the village always looks its best. I suppose the important thing now is not to rest on our laurels and to continue to strive to make further improvements next year. Well done everyone and keep up the good work.
