Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes

September 29, 2015

Senior Team: The Senior team travelled to Scotstown last Saturday for the Senior Championship Quarter Final versus Ballybay. On a beautiful afternoon it was the Faughs who settled the quickest with five unanswered points in the first twelve minutes before Ballybay responded with two in the twenty second minute and again on the twenty fifth minute, the gap could have been cut to one when Ballybay were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time but thankfully from a Faughs perspective the normally deadly accurate Shane Mc Guinness put it wide of the goal which left the Faughs going in at the break deservedly in front on a score line of Faughs 0-6 Ballybay 0-2. The second half started with both team trading points with the Pearse Brothers cutting the gap to two points with twenty minutes to go but it was at this point that the Faughs did their best work scoring three points, one apiece from the McElroy brothers and Ciaran Hanratty before a swift move from defence to attack saw David McMahon finish the ball to the back of the Ballybay net to leave the score at Faughs 1-11 Ballybay 0-8. The Faughs added three more points two from Brendan McElroy and the final one coming from Club Captain Martin McElroy before Ballybay rallied with a goal and a couple of points in injury time. Final Score Faughs 1-14 Ballybay 1-10.
