Drumhowan Club Notes

August 25, 2015

Mc Elvaney's Waste and Recycling IFC - Last Friday night the 21st of August Drumhowan made a quick exit out of the championship. However the performance this time was a marked improvement on the previous outing at the same venue.  It didn't look good in the 1st half as after 20 minutes Drumhowan's only score at that point was an excellent goal by Ciarán Duffy while Tyholland had  8 points up on the board. However in final 8 minutes of the 1st half they rallied to score 4 unanswered points to leave the half time score Drumhowan 1-4 Tyholland 0 - 9. Mid way through the second half the score was level  1 - 8 to 0-11 when Drumhowan were reduced to 14 men with David Millar being sent to the stand when perhaps his direct opponent should have followed him with a black card. Tyholland went in front again until Paddy Mulligan scored a 25th minute goal to put Drumhowan in the lead for the 1st time. However that lead was short lead when a number of mistakes in the Drumhowan defence led to Tyholland captain Ronan Mc Nally scoring  a goal 2 minutes later. Both teams then exchanged a point to leave the full time score Drumhowan 2 - 10 Tyholland 1-15

Monaghan Electrical IFL- with the championship now done and dusted for another year our attention now turns to staying in intermediate. There are 5 games left in the league with the first of these at this stage a home game to Corduff pencilled in for Sunday 6th September but this is subject to change depending on Corduff's progress in the championship.

MFL Div 1 Cup - last Tuesday night 18th August St Patrick's Minors made the long trip up to Magheracloone. The winner would secure a final date with double chasing Donaghmoyne. On the night nothing went right with numerous points and goal chances missed. Magheracloone hung on by the slenderest of margins to leave the full time score St. Patrick's 2-8 Magheracloone 1-12  The club would like to thank the management team(Martin Duffy, Gavin Sheridan, Colm Duffy and Enda Monaghan) for all their work all year. Also thanks to anyone else who helped with the team preparations throughout the year. Finally but most importantly míle buíochas to the players who worked hard all year and while it ended in disappointment hopefully what you have learnt will stand to you when you go and represent your clubs at senior level.

Gerry's Prepared Veg U16 Div 1 Shield Final  -  The u16s play their final game of the year in the shield final when they take on  championship finalists Inniskeen in Blackhill this Saturday 29th August at 3.30pm All support will be gratefully appreciated.

Gerry's Prepared Veg U14 Div 2 - The U14s played their final league game last Saturday 22nd August at home. In an exciting game with Drumhowan only using a panel of 11 players the result of the game was in doubt to the very end with Truagh winning probably due to their numerical advantage. Full time score Drumhowan 7-8 Truagh 8-7 They will now play either Emyvale or Truagh in a shield semi final.

U10 - The u10s  had Killanny as visitors on Saturday morning last. A very good game was played over 3 periods of 15 minutes. Again this group continue to improve and the younger members of the panel got some valuable game time in the middle period in order for them to make the step up from under 8 football. Thanks to Killanny for travelling down for the match. The U10s were due out again on Wednesday evening 26th when they were to travel to Aughnamullen for another game at 7pm. These games will be good preparation for the tournaments in Pearse Og in Armagh on 5th September and Gowna on the 12th of September so keep these dates free.

U8 - The U8s had a game lined up for Wednesday 26th in Aughnamullen for 7pm. Then on Saturday next there is a Go Games Blitz in St Tiernachs Park in Clones. This is a great chance for the youngsters to play on the premier pitch in Ulster. All players should be in Clones for 11.30am The blitz will finish at 2pm.

Training continues on Monday evenings at 7pm for another few weeks for all teams. No more training on Thursday nights for Under 8 or Under 10 teams.

Stewards Needed - the Greenfield SFC game between Magheracloone and Inniskeen will take place this Sunday in Páirc Mhic Eoin. A good crowd is expected and plenty of help is needed. Can all stewards please report for duty at 12 noon sharp.

Congratulations to Patrick Duffy who refereed his 1st underage final in Drumhowan on Friday 14th August when he took charge of the U12 Div 4 Cup Final between Monaghan Harps and Castleblayney.
