Eurotech Junior Football League

Our game against Killeevan last Sunday 23rd August in the Eurotech junior football league was postponed due to the wet weather conditions and a waterlogged pitch. The game will now be rescheduled for a later date. This Sunday they travel to Threemilehouse to play Sean McDermott's and the game has a throw-in time of 12.30pm.
Annual Golf Classic 2015
I have to say we have been blessed and really lucky with the weather because we held our annual fund raising golf classic last Saturday 22nd August and we had a great turnout with over a hundred golfers on the Clones Golf Course and the weather was absolutely amazing with blue skies and lovely sunshine. Despite all the recent wet weather the course was in tip-top condition which really contributed to a fantastic day as all golfers headed out to play an enjoyable round of golf. The presentation of prizes took place in Fitzpatrick's last night and the overall winning team with a score of 104 was Gerry Treanor, Mac Sammon, Gerard O'Callaghan & Paddy McKeown. Other prizes were hotly contested and last year's winning team involving Thomas McCormick, Paddy Kerr, Mick Fitzpatrick and Benny Lennon, with a score of 103, claimed second prize. The third place team with a score of 102 was Steven McDonald, Brendan McBrien, Paul McDermott & Frank Mulligan with fourth prize going to Brian Curran, Joe Beggan, Terry Lennon and Anthony Pinkleton.  We also had prizes for teams made up from non-regular golfers with the winning team going to Keith Daly, Cormac McFadden, Conor McGeough & Lorcan Smyth and Noel Carroll, Stephen Lynch, Cathal Sheridan and Pauric Carroll coming in second and congratulations to all winners.Regarding the golfers who lost the most golf balls I believe this was a very close contest but I understand that we had a new winner this year with Jimmy Carroll, Andrew Carroll, Den Harding & Peter Harding claiming this award as they were seen begging off other golfers for more balls! Nearest the Pin on the 2nd hole went to Shane McNaughton, whose shot landed within 600mm, and nearest the pin on the 18th (2 shots) was Brendan Smith. We had an additional prize for nearest the pin on the par 3 13th hole where teams had the opportunity to win €100. The winner was Dwayne Rooney, with an outstanding tee short that got within two metres of the pin, and he scooped the €100 prize. Many thanks to Anthony Tate, Eamon Clerkin and his son Conor Clerkin who waited patiently at the 13th tee and marshalled this competition. As the golfers mulled over and discussed their performance at the nineteenth hole they were treated to some juicy and mouthwatering burgers…"Mmmmmmmm burgers"….and many thanks to our top chefs Tom Daly, Ann Carroll, Jimmy McGeough, Emer McGeough and also Kathleen Daly who made some lovely scones to keep the workers fed. I have to say, the feedback from the golfers was amazing and very positive and everyone enjoyed the day immensely and on behalf of the club I would like to take this opportunity to thank once again our main sponsors Aidan & Marie Murray of Mullinahinch House Private Nursing Home and to all those companies and individuals who sponsored tee-boxes. I would also like to thank all the teams who participated on the day and for making the event such a wonderful occasion. Without your support and goodwill the efforts of the club could not continue and we deeply appreciate your support and loyalty. Many thanks to the Clones Golf Club and Gerry Treanor (Captain) for the use of their fine facilities and assistance on the day and finally a massive well done to our own club committee members for following up on sponsors and for planning the event in particular Paddy Mckeown, Martina McKeown and Tina Rooney who were the real driving force. So that's it folks for another year and we look forward to seeing you all swing again in next year's event.

The summer holidays are nearly over and that means it's the perfect time of the year to have a Family Fun Sports Day before all the kids go back to school....Yip-pee. A sports day is great craic and we have compiled a list of excellent fun games, activity & entertainment for you and your children and we guarantee you will have loads of fun. We have joined forced with the Parents Association of Scoil Mhuire to host a family fun sports day that will bring enjoyment to both young and old. It all takes place at Pairc Naomh Mhuire on Sunday 6th September between 2pm until 6pm and we welcome all parents and kids to join us for a great day's craic. Both committees have been busy planning a host of games and activities and there will be a huge array of novelty games to entertain the kids and parents including all the traditional races, penalties, golfing, hurling wall challenge, throw the wellie, clothes line challenge, skittles, soak your coach, face painting and off course what would a sports day be without the customary Ice-cream! So let's join together on Sunday 6th September and let's create a fantastic sports day that everyone within our community and surrounding parishes can join in and have some with family and friends.

Go Games Blitz Under 10
The under 10 footballers travelled to Cloghan, Annyalla last Saturday 22nd August to take part in another exciting Go Games blitz.Thankfully the lovely dry weather conditions continued as the boys and girls participated in an action packed two hours. Due to other events there was a small turnout of kids but it is always wonderful to see the kids perform at this level and enjoy themselves in a fun environment and that's what's it's all about. They played games against Aghabog, Emyvale and Monaghan Harps and well done to all the boys and girls and their mentors who took part in the blitz. All kids acquitted themselves exceptionally well, showing plenty of enthusiasm and displayed loads of energy in very warm temperatures, and the signs are positive for a bright future.
Go Games Blitz Under 8
This Saturday 29th August the under 8 footballers will be back in action when they travel to Clones to take part in an all-county go games blitz between 9.30am to 11.30am.
Gerry's Prepared Veg - Under 12 Shield Semi-Final
Our under 12  footballers travelled to play Ballybay last Thursday 20th August in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Division 4 Shield Semi-Final. This was a highly enjoyable match and all the boys and girls played really well and put in a sterling performance as they hustled, harried and battled hard throughout the game. Their work-rate was high and showed great enthusiasm and didn't allow their opponent's a whole lot of time on the ball. Credit to the Ballybay players who never gave up and gave a good account of themselves, making it hard for our lads and perhaps on another day things may have been different! As it transpired, our players brought their 'A' game and they secured the victory on a score-line Ballybay 1-2 Rockcorry 4-12 and we wish them all the best in the Shield Final which takes place this Saturday 29th August in Blackhill and throw-in time is 12 noon.
Gerry's Prepared Veg - Under 14 Semi-Final
Following the last round of games at the weekend the under 14 footballers have now qualified for the semi-final of their division 4 league competition. The semi-final has been fixed for Saturday 5th September and they take on Patrick Emetts at Scotshouse and throw-in time is 12 noon.
