Championship action dominated the club scene last weekend with five games in the McElvaneys Waste & Recycling sponsored intermediate football championship and two "back door" games in the Universal Graphics sponsored Junior football championship. In the opening round of matches in this year's intermediate football championship, which got underway last Saturday evening with a double bill in Inniskeen that saw Corduff defeat Aughnamullen in a fairly tight affair but it was a much more one-sided affair between Carrickmacross and Drumhowan, the Emmets romping to a comprehensive victory and making a strong statement that they are one of the teams to watch in this year's competition. There were three further games in the intermediate football championship last Sunday, Doohamlet defeating Tyholland in Blackhill in a very exciting contest in the early afternoon, while on Sunday evening last Currin defeated Cremartin by three points, Jack McCarron central to that victory, hitting 2-4 in the second-half and Emyvale running out comfortable winners in the end over Clones but they struggled for a time to impose themselves meaningfully on the opposition.

Meanwhile in the Junior football championship it is the end of the road this year for both Aghabog and Killeevan, Aghabog defeated by Scotstown and Killeevan losing out to Toome, both those games played in Clontibret on Saturday evening last. Those victories put Scotstown and Toome through to the semi finals.
