Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship
It was the great American track & field athlete Carl Lewis that once said "life is about timing" and in many respects this maxim can be applied to many sports and when our senior footballers took the field last Friday 26th June, wearing a new stylish strip generously sponsored by Foxhound Travel, they secured a gritty one point victory over Scotstown, who dominated the match for long periods and played superbly throughout a highly entertaining, a highly thrilling, but I have to say it was also a very nerve-wracking & absorbing encounter played at Smithborough. In fairness, it wasn't looking good ten minutes into the second half with Scotstown leading by six points, 0-8 to 0-14 and I have to admit my heart stopped for a few beats because it looked like the game was gone out of sight. But to the lads credit they never gave up and I know it's a cliché but the determination and hard work from all the players saw them over the line as it was exactly on the hour mark that we got our noses in front and in the end our timing was everything and my heart started to beat again with pride as our senior footballers clinched a magnificent victory over Scotstown in the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship on a final score-line Rockcorry 0-17 Scotstown 0-16. Sponsorship
A couple of weeks ago I announced that we will be unveiling a new sponsor for our senior & reserve teams and at this stage you may have heard or seen that our new sponsor is Foxhound Travel. The new jerseys were worn for the first time last Friday evening and thankfully we got off to a winning start wearing the new stylish jerseys with a great win over Scotstown in the Junior Football Championship. This sponsorship deal is a massive boost to the club and it's refreshing to know that the club has the support and backing of a local company and we are obviously delighted to have Foxhound Travel on board. Foxhound Travel are a local company based in the village and they provide a luxury coach and mini coach hire plus wheelchair accessible vehicles. The Fox family have been generous supporters of the club over the years and this deal reinforces their commitment to working and supporting the local GAA club and the community and we are always grateful for the support and contribution of any company and or individuals and to get the backing from a local company, like Foxhound Travel, is hugely valued and deeply appreciated by the club and we look forward to working with them during these exciting times for the club. As well as that, we use them all the time for transporting our underage teams to various venues and to this day they have never let us down and are always more than helpful to assist whenever the odd thing falls between the cracks! This is another exciting deal for the club and once again I would like to thank them most sincerely for their support and encourage you to support our sponsors whenever possible in appreciation of their support and investment in the club.

Go Games Double Blitz
With a lovely stretch in the evenings and glorious sunshine to go with it our under 8's and under 10 footballers took part in another Go Games double Blitz held at O'Neill Park, Doohamlet last Thursday 18th July. It has certainly been a very busy time for our youngest playing members and it was very encouraging to see such a large numbers of kids giving their all and learning the skills of the game in a fun and safe environment and in truth, some of the passing movements and scores would have been very worthy of any senior team! Thanks to the Doohamlet club for hosting the blitz and on behalf of the club I would like to sincerely thank all the parents for their on-going commitment for travelling to the blitz and for supporting all the players and a special word of mention to our hard working coaches & mentors (Sean McCaffrey, Garry Calvert, Sharon Fox, Cormac McFadden, Anthony Tate, Fintan Larmer, Brian Clerkin) who give up their time to help organise and look after the future players of the club. Well done everyone and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and anticipation. Keep up the good work.

Gerry's Prepared Veg - Under 12 League
Did you ever have one of those days where nothing goes right? From your first step out of bed things just go wrong and everything you do seems to go sideways!  Unfortunately, some days are like that and when our when our under 12 footballers travelled to play Monaghan Harps last Saturday 27th June in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Division 4 League they experienced a day just like that where nothing went right for them and everything went right for Monaghan Harps as they, for most parts, dominated the match and secured a comprehensive victory on a score-line 10-21 to 3-5. The game was played on a lovely summers day with conditions perfect and we clearly struggled to keep pace with Monaghan Harps and their style of football who produced an outstanding performance and it was 5-11 to 1-2 at the half-way stage. When play resumed, Monaghan Harps continued to assert their authority on the game with scores flowing freely they tacked on another 5-10 after the break. Our boys and girls continued to work so hard both defensively and offensively and while we were in a lot of possession we were finding it difficult to penetrate the Monaghan Harps defence and only managed to add 2-3 leaving the final score Monaghan Harps 10-21 Rockcorry 3-5. They have a bye on Saturday 11th July but are back in action on Tuesday 14th July when they travel to play Oram and the game has a throw-in time of 7.30pm.
Gerry's Prepared Veg - Under 14 League
Our under footballers secured a great win last Thursday 25th June when they travelled to play Inniskeen in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Division 5 league campaign. I caught up with their team manager, Eamon Clerkin, after the game and he said despite missing a few players the lads worked hard and put in a fantastic all round display of football and got the rewards for their collective efforts to run out fully deserved winners on a final score-line Inniskeen 2-6 Rockcorry 2-15. They are back in action on Saturday 18th July they have a home game against Latton at 12 noon.
Gerry's Prepared Veg  - Under 16
The next game in the league campaign is scheduled for Thursday 2nd July when they host Toome at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm. On Thursday 16th July they travel to play Tyholland at 7.30pm.
