Cavan won't condone off-the-ball incidents or verbals

Terry Hyland and his backroom team will be instructing their players to concentrate on the ball in Sunday's Ulster SFC derby against Monaghan, insists chairman Gerry Brady.

Brady was speaking to The Examiner in the wake of the negative fall-out from last Sunday's Donegal/Tyrone clash and the warning from Red Hand captain Sean Cavanagh that there will be a repeat of it in Kingspan Breffni Park.

"Cavan play Monaghan this weekend, and I've no doubt it'll be rife there as well," Cavanagh opined.

But, in reply, the top Breffni official stated: "I know from our team management's point of view that the players will be instructed to go out and put an emphasis on playing the ball and our full concentration is in that area.

"We definitely wouldn't be condoning any off-the-ball incidents, verbals or anything else. It's something Terry and the management wouldn't be encouraging.

"I think there is an onus on both sides to make sure that they deliver a prime, competitive championship game of football and keep all other elements out of the equation."

When the two neighbours last met in the McKenna Cup earlier this year, Cavan midfielder Gearoid McKiernan was hit with a two-match suspension for a sectarian remark he made to Monaghan's Drew Wylie.

"It was dealt with, we accepted the findings. We've moved on and we don't want to go back and start talking about games that happened in January. I don't think there's going to be any concerns from our point view or from the Monaghan players', management's or county board's point of view."
