Blackhill Emeralds club notes

May 19, 2015

Eurotech JFL: We were defeated by a single point at home to Sean Mc Dermott's last Sunday morning. Trailing 5-4 at the interval, Blackhill hit a purple spell in the 2nd half to hold a 10-7 lead entering the closing stages of the contest. That was as good as it got for them however as Seans finished the stronger and came away with the points on a full time score of Bhill 0-10 Seans 0-11. Next fixture is at home to Killeevan on 31st May at 2pm.

Juvenile Training: Our young footballers are due to grace the green fields of Blackhill for the first time this weekend. They have completed their programme in GR8 which they all enjoyed immensely. The focus now is preparing for their first match on June 1st (Sports day). Due to the Monaghan Seniors playing on Sunday, we have decided to train this weekend on Saturday morning at 11am. NOTE CHANGE OF DAY AND VENUE. Blackhill pitch, Sat 11am.

Reserves: Fixture next Wednesday at home to Truagh.

Minors: Tyholland 2-11 Emerald Sarsfields 2-11. This side now take a break until the exams are over.

Good Wishes: To James Daly to suffered a knee injury preparing for Monaghan's upcoming minor game against Cavan. Not only is this a blow for Monaghan but also for our Senior and Minor teams. Hopefully James will be back in action sooner rather than later. It is also unfortunate timing as James prepares for his Leaving Cert Exams in which we wish him every luck.

Birthday Boy: Happy birthday to Paddy Green who celebrated his 90th birthday with a party in the club with family and friends last Friday evening.

Emerald's Draw: 1st Tara Burns, Drumcrew. 2nd Sarah Duffy, Carrickatee. 3rd Eileen Finnegan, Broomfield.

Dates for Diary: Sports Day - 1st June. Anyone available to help out in any way please contact any of the committee or leave your name in the bar.

A Good News Story: Blackhill received a huge boost last week with the news that we had won £5000! A huge thank you to all members who participated by collecting points when filling up at our local Topaz branch. This enabled us to be entered into a national draw in which we were 2nd out of the hat securing the cash prize. A huge lift to our club and a big word of thanks to Watters Topaz, Castleblayney.
