Blackhill Emeralds club notes

February 24, 2015

The Pride of the Hill: Pride of place this week goes to Anthony 'Razor Sharp' Courtney who lit up the Four Seasons Hotel on Saturday night last with a dazzling display of quick feet, clever combinations and a fearless eye of the tiger approach. Anthony received a rapturous welcome as he entered the arena to the sound of Thin Lizzie's 'Welcome to the Jungle'. Standing at 6'1 in his Blackhill togs and red, Eamon Byrne's Butchers sponsored top, he acknowledged the travelling support before fixing his attentions to the towering 'Mean Machine' in the opposite corner. Anthony flew out of the traps and claimed the 1st round with conviction. He was on the back foot for parts of the 2nd however and the fight was evenly poised entering the third and final round. The two competitors battled bravely to the end with the verdict now in the hands of the judges. They stood, exhausted, either side of the referee as they nervously awaited the result. Northern Sound DJ Sean Mc Caffrey put the micro-phone towards his mouth and declared the red corner the victor sparking jubilant celebrations as 'Clyde' was escorted from the ring shoulder high. Fair play Anthony.
