Chairman's Address (Part 2)

Continuing on from last week's notes the chairman highlighted the fact that without referees there would be no games and this year we were lucky to have three referees, Anthony Tate, Nicky Calvert and Fergal McGeough and thanked them for their work in carrying out a difficult and demanding job and expressed hope they would stick at it for the year ahead. Regarding the financial affairs he thanked the members who sell the Top 4 lotto envelopes and appealed to club members for a greater need to participant and help out with the raising funds. He thanked Bridie & Aidan Sheridan, Noreen Calvert and Mickey Friary who continue to make an invaluable contribution towards the club with their efforts. He thanked the local community and beyond for supporting the lotto and stated it was very much appreciated during these difficult and challenging times. He made reference to a very successful golf classic that took place during the year and the hard work of the sub-committee members who helped out with organising the event for the club and for all their efforts in ensuring the success of this fundraiser. He also thanked all sponsors big and small for their generous support especially the main sponsor Aidan & Marie Murray of Mullinahinch House Private Nursing Home and Eugene Cleary who sponsored 1st prize of the competition. He referred to the other successful fund raiser events such as the Lawn Mover Race which was organised by Tom Daly & Mark Daly and thanked them for their efforts and the National Club GAA Draw which the club reaped financial rewards and as a result the club were able to develop a new Strength & Conditioning Room and thanked Tom Daly, Mark Daly Keith Daly and Eoin Fitzpatrick for their work to bring this project to fruition. On the administration affairs he thanked his fellow club officers and committee members for their work throughout the year but emphasised that the current workload falls on the shoulders of a small group of people and underlined that this was one of the clubs biggest challenges and unless more people come forward and offer to help in the running of the club this will be a serious problem.  He acknowledged the great work of Seamus Tate for helping out and looking after the pitch and lining out the field before matches and Anthony Clerkin for helping with the erection of the ball stop nets. He thanked the ladies and the catering team for providing refreshments after some matches and also thanked Tina Rooney for her physio duties. He concluded by stating that he was not seeking re-election for the chairman position and during the past five years the club has experienced the best of times and the worst of times...and there were never any dull moments!
Committee Positions Vacant
The management committee is open to all who wish to sit on the committee or indeed any of our sub-committees. New faces, new opinions, new ideas are the lifeblood of any club and with your input the possibilities of today can be achieved tomorrow. At our annual general meeting the positions of Assistant Secretary, Cultural Officer were not filled. We are now looking to co-opt members to fill these important roles. If any club member is interested in taking up any of these roles or perhaps sitting on the management committee please get in touch. The bottom line folks, and its quit simple, the future of the club is in our own hands. Everything that we do today or indeed everything that we don't do will have a serious impact on the performance of the club in the future. It's you club, get involved.
Annual Yearbook 2014 - 'Our Club…Our Passion'
This year's annual yearbook entitled "Our Club…Our Passion" was officially launched at our annual general meeting and is now available to download on our official website www.rockcorrygaa.ie. The format follows previous editions and includes plenty of team photographs, loads of actions shots from the games and a lot more stuff from various other events held during 2014. If you would like a hard copy then please get in touch with myself. Due to the economies of scale and the number of units ordered the average cost of producing the book will reduce. It is quite expensive to print so I won't make any promises but I will do my best to try and get some yearbook's printed.
Coaching Workshops
The Monaghan Games & Coaching Development committee in conjunction with the Ulster GAA have released dates a number of workshops that will take place during January. A workshop entitled 'Fitness Testing & Developing a Programme' is scheduled for Tuesday 6th January at Cloghan at 7.30pm and finally 'Planning the Pre-Season' will take place on Tuesday 13th January in Cloghan at 7.30pm. Please visit our www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our Facebook page for a brief description of the workshops and names of the workshop tutors. For further information you can contact Patrick McCarron at 087-2163580 or [email protected].
Senior Citizen Sponsored Walk
A massive well done to all the brave souls who participated in the sponsored walk today, Saturday 6th December, to raise money for the Senior Citizens Christmas Party. There was a good turn-out and the chilly weather conditions did not dampen their spirits as they headed off to Swans Cross. The walk was organised by the local Rockcorry & Dartrey Community Alert committee and if anyone would still like to make a donation towards this event they can contact Gerry Coyle, Pat McCormick, Noeleen Fitzpatrick, Ben Duffy, Eric Latimer or any of the members on the committee. Events like these don't just happen and it takes enormous amount of time, hard-work and planning to ensure it runs smoothly and I would like to say a massive well done to all the members of the organising committee and anyone else who offered a hand to ensure everything went off well on the day. Many thanks to the local Garda Derek Rochford & John Maher for their assistance in making sure it was a safe event and once again well done to everyone who completed the walk and here's looking forward to a great Christmas party which takes place in the Hillgrove Hotel on Tuesday 16th December.

Rockcorry Bowls Tournament
The past week St. Mary's Hall was buzzing and a hive of activity with the local Bowls club running their pairs competitive tournament. More than 200 players from across the county took part including players who travelled from Ulster and Leinster. It was a 'bowl-tastic' occasion with some fabulous matches. The competition will draw to a fascinating close this Thursday night (11th December) when the very best bowlers will assemble to compete for the title and claim the Bosco Carroll Memorial Cup. It promises to be another electrifying night and the action starts at 7.30pm.
Christmas Tree
I think Christmas is a great time of year and if you're like me then you really look forward to the festive season and having a good time with family and friends. The magic of Christmas is special and as the classic song goes "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" and seeing a spectacular 30 foot high Christmas tree erected on the village green really enhances our small community and creates great community spirit. I have to say the tree looks amazing and when the lights were officially switched on this evening you can't but feel the excitement in the air. All credit to the Christmas tree committee and fair-play to the group of men who braved the elements this morning (Saturday 6th December) and pulled out all the stops to ensure the tree was erected for all of us to enjoy. If you were unable to attend the table quiz last Friday night and if you have not already supported the Christmas Tree fund raising campaign you can still help by buying a bulb or alternatively by making a donation towards the cause. The Christmas Tree Committee would deeply appreciate your support and once again a massive well done to all the workers, the tree looks totally amazing.
