Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes

September 16, 2014

Stars in the Faughs Eyes - The day has finally arrived, "Stars in the Faughs Eyes" will take place this Saturday evening in the Glencarn Hotel, with doors opening to the public at 7.45pm. There has been a huge amount of work gone into the development of the show, with a big team of people developing the concept, selling tickets and most importantly practising their acts. We would like to thanks each and every one of the people involved, on what will surely be a night to remember. Tickets are selling extremely well and are available from any committee member or act. We are looking for all members to support this fundraiser, all money raised goes back to support the development of the club and your support on the night is important to us all. We are asking everyone to get out of the arm chair on Saturday evening and join us in the Glencarn for what will a great evenings fun.

Senior team - The Senior team exited the Championship last Sunday evening, when they were defeated by reigning County Champions Scotstown. In an entertaining first half the Faughs played some good football and when the half time whistle went, we were very much in the game with Faughs 0-7pts and Scotstown 0-8pts. Unfortunately that was as good as it got as Scotstown came out of the blocks quicker in the second half, adding 1-4 to their tally in the opening fifteen minutes to kill off the game. The Faughs, to their credit, kept battling right to the end but they couldn't get that goal to bring them back into the match. Final Score Faughs 0-11 Scotstown 2-15. While we have exited the Senior Championship, everyone in the club is aware that this team is in development, the management and the players have put in a huge effort so far and with a number of league games left the focus turns to trying to secure a semi-final place in the league. Everyone let's keep up the good work and let's keep the improvement curve going the right way.

Minors - The Minors also had a disappointing week, when they went down to Latton in the Minor League Final last Tuesday night. Latton on the night proved to be the better team and every time we got close, they were able to add on another point or two to keep the gap between us. Final Score Faughs 1-9 Latton 4-10. This finishes the year for the Minor team, while defeat in the final is a hard pill to swallow, the team and management have done really well to get this far. A big well done and thanks goes out to all involved, we have had some great evening's entertainment watching the team play during the season.

Under 16 Boys - The U16's semi-final has now been fixed for Scotshouse on Thursday the 17th of September at 6pm. Best of luck to the lads.  Details of the result can be found on the website, the winner of this semi-final will go on to play Toome in the final.

Under 14 Girls -The girls have been drawn to play Scotstown in the Under 14 Semi Final away this Sunday at 12pm. Darren will be in touch with details during the week about training and the travel arrangements for the match. Best of Luck Girls.

Operation TransFAUGHSmation - Well what a start we have had, last Friday evening saw  over two hundred people descend on the black island for a quick brisk walk. On what was a lovely evening, the participants walked around the island in an effort to break themselves gently into the programme. On Sunday morning, we all gathered at Mullyash Community centre to walk the mountains 7K path and again we were blessed with the weather, with most people taking the option to sit outside the centre to chat after the walk was over. Tuesday night saw the first session of circuits kick off at 6pm, followed by the second session at 7.10pm while Friday night (tomorrow) will see the first Boot camp in the field (St. Mary's Park) at 6.30pm. Our hike to Slieve Gullion will leave the Car park at St. Mary Park at 9am on Sunday Morning. We recommend bringing a light backpack with water and a small snack to keep you going along the way and hope to be home in plenty of time to kick back and enjoy the All Ireland football Final.

Under 16 Finals Day -The Club are delighted that St. Marys Park has been chosen as the venue for the 2014 Under 16 Finals on Saturday the 20th of September, with two finals down for decision it will be another busy day for Club stewards and officials.  If you are available to help out can you contact Brian Sherry 086 - 2334287 or Melissa Conlon 087 761 7216 as we once again need all hands on board to insure the event is a success.
