Toome GFC Notes

September 16, 2014

Toome GFC Development Fund GRAND DRAW: Toome GFC are delighted to announce that we are currently selling tickets for our Grand Draw! The money is intended to assist in the Development and running of the club. First Prize is a very attractive €5000, which would be a very welcome windfall for any of us! Tickets cost €20 each, or 3 for €50. We need the help of everybody in the area, and ticket sellers are the key to the draw's success. We urge people to put in a 'big push' as other clubs have reaped the rewards of enthusiastic sales.
Senior Team: We welcomed Drumhowan to St Victor's Park on Sunday last for a match that was anticipated as being pivotal to both sides hopes of a semi final spot. Drumhowan started at a blistering pace, and having raced into a lead of 1-5 to 0-1 after 17 minutes, things looked ominous for the home side. We began to claw our way back however, and despite the dismissal of substitute Alan Lambe, who had made an impact in his brief spell on the pitch, the scoreline at half time read: Toome 0-4 Drumhowan 1-5.

It's a cliché as old as the GAA itself, but the team down to 14 men seemed to find an extra gear, and a goal midway through the second half from Gary Wilson levelled matters at 1-6apiece. The sides swapped scores in a tight battle to the end, and a draw at 1-9 each was probably the fair result. We travel to Blackhill next Saturday evening for a 6pm throw in, as the race for 4th place continues.

Congratulations: To former Toome sharpshooter Gerard Cunningham and his new wife Denise on their marriage last week. There'll be a tug of war in years to come between Monaghan and Louth for the services of their two wee boys, who have inherited their father's scoring left peg.

Bon Voyage: We bid farewell to Gavin Connolly who is emigrating to New York this week. Gavin has taken up a job with Tourism Ireland, and if there was ever a walking advertisement for all that's good about our green isle, then surely it's the hatchet man from Annalitten. Gavin played his part in the game against Drumhowan on Sunday, giving an assured display at corner back. Best wishes also to our physio Noeleen Mulligan, who is moving to Manchester to complete her studies. She maintains that her time in Toome thought her all she needs to know about aching limbs and bones.

Toome Diaspora: You might have noticed an interesting article a few weeks ago on the work of Eugene McArdle to promote the GAA in New York. He's involved in the Celtics club in Brooklyn, where he recently organised a massively successful underage blitz. Hopefully his home club might make it over some day!

AstroTurf: For bookings on our 3G all-weather facility contact Louis @ 087-6503826.

Lotto: No winner of the jackpot this week, numbers: 1,8,14,24. Lucky Dip:
Sarah Mackin Blayney, PJ McMahon, Toome; Marie Devlin, Corrygarry; Francis Donnolly, Annadruman; Jim Mc Ardle, Crescent Hill.
Annual lotto subscriptions are now due, Pete Donaghy, Dermot Reavy or any committee member will be only too glad to take your money! €100 is the annual charge.
