Scotstown Club Notes

August 27, 2014

Senior Championship: Our seniors are in Rd 2A of the Gormley PVC senior football Championship on Sunday 31st Aug against Ballybay at 6.30pm in Clontibret. We wish the lads the Best of Luck on Sunday.

Credit Union League: On Wednesday week last Ballybay eased their way past Scotstown in this league encounter. The nearest we got to the home team was a single point when a well worked goal on 16mins through Shane Carey, which involved Rory Beggan, Darren Hughes & Ruairi Sheehan to set up the goal. Ballybay scored a good goal of their own in the 1st half on 24mins while they went into break at 1-8 to 1-4. Ballybay were much sharper with their long range scores in the 2nd half as they held on to win well in the end by 1-18 to 1-9.

Eurotech Junior League: Our Junior team recorded their second league win of the campaign at home to Éire Óg on Friday last. They had a perfect start to game registering 1-4 in the opening 4mins with Paul Sherlock scoring the goal. This start gave them a good half time lead of 1-10 to 0-3. Eire Óg did close in on them in the 2nd half but Scotstown still held on for a 1-14 to 1-6 win in the end. Team and Scorers: Cian Mohan; Jack McDevitt, Mattie McCague, Adrian Carbin; Shane Rice, Tommy Moyna, David Caulfield; Myles Treanor, James Hamill (0-1); Sean Mohan (0-1), Donnacha Dolan, Micheal McCarville (0-2); Ruairi Sheehan (0-4), Conor Caulfield (0-1), Paul Sherlock (1-4). Substitutes used: Peter Hamill, Declan Treanor, Jason Carey (0-1), Mark Clerkin, Conor O'Harte, Shane Meehan. Next match is at home to Aghabog on Monday 1st Sept at 7pm.

Reserve League Final: The season came to an end as our B team was denied a double success with Clontibret winning the Platinum Tanks Reserve League DIV 1A final by two points on Sunday last. It was Clontibret that settled into the game better in the first half, while for Scotstown all they could show for in the first half was 2pts from Orin Heaphey and Sean Mohan. Our B team made a vast improvement in the second half particularly the subs that were introduced helped them to close in on the leaders. Our B side was behind at half time by 1-7 to 2pts. When Clontibret had the opening point in the second half, Scotstown began the fight back, a long range free came off the crossbar, were Paul Grant was alert to finish the ball to the net on 48mins, plus further points made it a two point game. Even though they couldn't capitalize on their recovery with efforts wasted, time had run out as Clontibret held on for a 1-9 to 1-7 win. Well done to the management team of Brendan Beggan, Brendan McCaffrey and Paul Carey on the task they had this season, even though, they will be disappointed that the double wasn't achieved, they brought the team to two finals, winning the Championship (O'Duffy Cup) after a lapse of 21yrs. Team: Cian Mohan; Eddie Beggan; Matthew McCague; Ciaran Treanor; Jack McDevitt; Barry McMeel; Paul Sherlock; Stephen Sherry; Paul Grant; Tommy Moyna; Orin Heaphey; Mark Treanor; Dermot McCrudden; Sean Mohan; Emmett McCrudden. Subs Used: Michael McCarville; Conor Caulfield; Shane Rice; Ruairi Sheehan; Mark Corrigan; David McCague.

Minors: An understrength minor side made a gallant effort as they went down to Carrick in the league semi-final on Tuesday last. They composed themselves well after a shaky start to trail at the interval by 1-9 to 1-4. The home side did, however, cruised on for a comfortable win in the second half as the game ended on 2-16 to 1-8 scoreline. Well done to some of the U16 players who experienced first time minor football, something to look forward next year. Team: Fintan Sherlock; Lorcan Murray; Brendan Boylan; Cillian Murphy (0-1); Cian McGonnell; Caolan McKenna; Alan McKenna; Francis Maguire (0-4); James Corley (0-1); Padraig Meehan; Shane McMahon; Mark Maguire (0-1); Mark McKenna; Jamie McCarey (0-1); Darragh McCague (1-0).
