Drumhowan Club Notes

August 26, 2014

Universal Graphics JFC -   reminder the JFC final will take place on Sunday 28th September at 3.30pm against neighbours Blackhill who we haven't beaten at the last 4 attempts. Late September would be an ideal time. We are calling all our supporters to get their colours, flags, bunting etc out. Also anyone who is willing to help out financially as we bid for our 4th Junior Championship in 9 years please contact Chairperson Martin, Treasurer John or any member of our committee.

Eurotech JFL in the past week we have encountered the feeling of winning and loosing. On Wednesday last 21st August we overcame Killeevan on the scoreline Drumhowan 4 - 18 Killeevan 1 - 4. However on Sunday 24th August we lost to our championship final opponents Blackhill on the scoreline Drumhowan 0 - 11 Blackhill 2 - 14. Last night Wednesday 27th August we took on Scotstown once again in Páirc Mhic Eoin. Please check twitter or facebook for a result. Our next game is away to  Aughnamullen on Wednesday 3rd September at 645pm. Please note the change and date of time of this fixture.

Gerry's Prepared Veg U16 Div 1 - The U-16s played Truagh at home in Drumhowan on Thursday 21st August  in their final league game. They secured another win to finish the year on a high. The full time score was St. Patrick's 1 - 14 Truagh 0 - 12. The club would like to thank the management team of Tommy Mc Ardle, Niall Mc Adam, Cathal Hand, John Duffy and all the players for their effort throughout the year. Also thanks to Mary Duffy for 1st aid   and the parents  for everything they do.  Finally thanks to Ita Duffy, Róisín Deery and Nancy Mc Ardle and the parents who provided and cooked refreshments for the squad after the game.

Gerry's Prepared Veg U14 Div 3 - Our shield semi final against Doohamlet took place last Tuesday 26th August  away from home. Please check social media for a result. If victorious we will play Éire Óg in the final.

Gerry's Prepared Veg U12 Div 2A - Our U12s  will  take on Cremartin in the final, on this  Saturday 30th August at 12.45  in Castleblayney. Please come out and support this young team as we attempt to win our first trophy of the year.

Under 8 & 10 -  Both these sides travelled to Latton on Saturday morning last for challenge games against the locals. On a fine sunny morning for football and despite a few families away on holidays we had 28 players with one Under 10 side and 2 Under 8 teams. In the under 8 games we had a younger development team playing as one team and an older 8 year olds on the other team. Both sides performed very well and they continue to improve with each outing. Our Under 10 side also put on a fine display against a good Latton outfit which was ideal preparation for the upcoming tournament in Cavan. Thanks to the Latton club for the games and to all our players who turned up in such great numbers. Again a big thanks to all our coaches who give up so much of their free time to look after all our juvenile teams.

Under 10  - We have been invited to take part in the Gowna tournament in Cavan which takes place on Saturday week September 6th. It will be an early start that morning as we will be heading off shortly after 8am. More details next week.

Sympathy - the club would like to offer sympathy to David Millar and his family on the death of Hughie Millar

Congratulations -  to Owen Quinn who was part of the Monaghan U16 squad who won the Buncrana Cup recently. Also well done to Tullycorbett U14 Music Group who finished with Silver Medals at the Community Games All Ireland Finals  in Athlone last weekend. Also well done to the Set Dancers who finished 4th.

Photo exhibition - over the past two years the community group have been collating photos for posterity.  There are a lot of sporting photos present. Over 600 photos will be on display some that were displayed last year while others are now only seeing the light of day.  This Friday night from 7 to 9  and Sunday from 12 to 4  will be your last chance to see them on display in the community centre. After that they will be put into albums. A DVD of the photos can also be purchased. An ideal present for Christmas!
