Cavan Minor hurlers blitz Monaghan

April 19, 2014
ULSTER MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SHIELD SEMI FINAL.

Cavan 5-17
Monaghan 1-8.

A rampant Cavan coasted to do victory as they blitzed Monaghan in an
increasingly one way second half to run out comprehensive if not facile
winners by all of 21 points to book their place in the final of the Ulster
Minor Hurling Shield competition at Kingspan Breffni Park, 3G, at the
weekend.

There was no hint of the way the second half was going to develop at the end
of the first period when Cavan led by just three points, 0-9 to 0-6, after
Monaghan had in fact led by four points in the early stages of the second
quarter, having made the better start.

A goal and two points in the opening five minutes of the second half gave
the home side a comfortable cushion and while Monaghan rallied briefly Cavan
hit them with a further 1-5 without reply to open a 15 points gap entering
the final quarter. Monaghan pulled back a goal to give cause for some hope
but Cavan rallied to hit three goals in quick succession between the 18th
and 21st minutes to turn the affair into a veritable procession with
Monaghan a well beaten side at the finish.
