Doogan out of league final

Monaghan's Gavin Doogan
Midfielder Gavin Doogan will miss Monaghan's FL Division 2 final showdown against Donegal after suffering a broken foot in a club game on Saturday.

The Magheracloone clubman is also rated as doubtful for the Farney County's Ulster SFC opener against either Tyrone or Down on June 15th.

The injury will rule him out of action for at least six weeks and he will be short on match fitness ahead of the opening game in the defence of their Anglo Celt Cup.

The Irish News reports that a third round of club league games scheduled for Sunday have been postponed at the request of manager Malachy O'Rourke.

"I would always be very much in favour of the lads playing for their clubs and club football going ahead," O'Rourke told the paper.

"I don't think that you can demand that, so many club players just concentrate on club football.

"It's just in this instance, we felt that three club games in eight days; especially at this time of year, when legs are heavy and it's early in the league campaign, maybe was a bit much.

"In fairness the fixtures committee were agreeable to that. We're more than happy with that. It gives the boys a wee bit more time to try and get ready for Sunday week."
