Senior Championship Clontibret 0-13 Magheracloone 0-13

A tense and exciting championship match ended all-square on Sunday when we hosted Magheracloone in O’Neill Park for our first ever home championship match. Next weekend we travel to Donaghmoyne on Saturday for a 4pm throw in. Well done to all who worked so hard in the days leading up to the match to have the grounds in such fine fettle with many compliments paid by visitors and locals alike. Sundays match also marked the first live streaming of a game from O’Neill Park thanks to the technical proficiency of Glen Mahony from Skyrocket and his assistant Benny Og while the incisive and balanced commentary proved to be a big hit with listeners from as far away as London, Melbourne and Chicago . A big shout out also to our loyal band of stewards and Covid officers who kept things running smoothly on Sunday while ensuring compliance with current restrictions. Compliments also to Amy McDonald who sang a notable version of Amhran na bhFiann

New Field Development

It was great to see the new Prunty pitch fully lined and flagged following the recent erection of goalposts, nets and ball stops and it is now ready to come into use. This has come about as a result of the drive and ambition of our development committee over the past ten years and the great support that our members have provided through the Clontibret Our Future Fund, The drive for this year’s contributions has been stalled during the Covid lockdown but we are now reigniting that and promoters will be calling again in the coming days and weeks. While some people may not be in a position to make their contribution right now we hope that most will,  to provide the necessary finance to finish off this great project. Next on the list is a concrete plinth and metre high fence around the new pitch and works to complete the new car park with drainage and surfacing. Both the new pitch and car park are a wonderful addition to our facilities and it would be great to bring them to completion in the current year so please be as generous as you can when your Clontibret Our Future promoter contacts you.

Fr Lorcan Lynch

We wish a fond farewell to Fr. Lorcan Lynch who has retired from active ministry following a period of years resident in Clontibret. Fr. Lorcan was a staunch GAA man having played for Ballybay in his younger days and while his support for them never dimmed he was a kind and interested supporter of all things Clontibret during his years here. We wish him well as he retires to his native area.

Hurling

In the Junior Championship the hurlers play their last group match at home to Latton on Wed 12th August
