"Winning it would be very special" - Freeman

Magheracloone veteran Tommy Freeman says winning an All-Ireland title this weekend “would be unbelievable” for the parish.

The former Monaghan star will look to help shoot his club past Oughterard of Galway on Saturday evening at Croke Park (throw-in 5.15pm), returning to the hallowed turf for the first time since the Farney men’s 2013 All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone.

“Listen, people say you’re in bonus territory but I’m not going to beat around the bush, it’s an All-Ireland final and you want to win it,” Freeman told AIB GAA this week.

“For the parish, winning it would be unbelievable and, as people say, it would nearly put you on the map. After the year we have had, losing all our facilities, it would be a massive lift to young and old in the parish.

“The excitement is building and the kids are looking forward to it. I wouldn’t say there will be a person in Magheracloone on Saturday evening!

“In a nutshell, winning it would be very special.”

The Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues are back this weekend and so is the Hogan Stand Match Tracker. Join us on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for live score and updates from the opening rounds.
