Aughnamullen GAA Fundraising Draw 2019

In 2019 Aughnamullen GAA committee in Co Monaghan undertook a major fundraising initiative draw to help to develop a new juvenile field for our youth of the parish which commenced in March 2019. On behalf of the Committee we would like to thank all the patrons from all the clubs in Co Monaghan and patrons from surrounding areas of Co Fermanagh, Co Tyrone, Co Derry, Co Armagh, Co Louth, Co Cavan and Co Meath who purchased tickets. It shows that the spirit of the GAA is alive and kicking throughout by your generous contributions towards our development draw. We would also like to thank all those who gave generous sponsorship towards our draw and these are as follows Mc Nally Bros Annaglave, Lough Egish Motor Factors, Tusker Ltd, Platinum Tanks Ltd, Mc Elvaney Waste & Recycling, Dignam’s Bar & Sean Mc Cooey, Wards Consultancy Services – Ballybay, Coleman’s Bar – Laragh, Mourne Shooting Range, Lough Egish Landscapes

We would like to thank all our ticket sellers i.e. the Committee, Supporters of our club, Aughnamullen Senior Team members and our Ladies Players led by Officers Linda Hamilton, Annie Hannaway & Catriona Hamilton. To all the ticket sellers who drove cars around the county of Monaghan and surrounding areas of Co Fermanagh, Co Tyrone, Co Derry, Co Armagh, Co Louth, Co Cavan and Co Meath. To members of our community who sold tickets to people in their workplace, families etc thank you very much.

The draw was held on Saturday night last in Aughnamullen Social Centre and many thanks to all those who attended especially the local member of our community who pulled out tickets for our draw and they were as follows Philomena Duffy, Eileen Ward, Mary King, Packie Ward, Tommy Murtagh, John Duffy (Baraghy) & Paddy Marron

AGM: The Annual General Meeting of the Football Club takes place on Friday 29th November in the Social Centre commencing at 8pm. 

 

Aughnamullen Vintage Day: Aughnamullen Vintage Day  took place at Aughnamullen GAA grounds on the 27th of October.There was so much to see and do at the Aughnamullen Vintage Day.  Plenty of competitions for all the children including our Art Competition, Winners as follows:  Preschool – Oisin Sheridan (St. Oliver Plunketts Preschool), Junior Infants – Aimee Meehan (Lisdoonan National School), Senior Infants – Thomas McCormack (St. Oliver Plunketts National School, Loughmourne), 1st Class – Maya Higgins (St. Oliver Plunketts NS, Loughmourne), 2nd Class Eimear Keenan (Oram National School), 3rd Class – Mia McNally (St. Oliver Plunketts NS, Loughmourne, 4th Class – Mason Ted Mulligan (Aughnafarcon National School), 5th Class Niamh O’Reilly (Aughnafarcon National School) and 6th Class – Elle McArdle (St. Oliver NS Loughmourne).  Congratulations to all the winners and a special word of thanks to Anthony McArdle of McArdle Office and Stationery Supplies (Castleblayney and Monaghan) for sponsoring all the prizes for the Art Competition.  We also had the Best Dressed Pumpkin competition.  Congratulations to the winners and also a special word of thanks to Rosemary Johnson of Gifts ‘N Things Carrickmacross for sponsoring the prizes for this competition.

We would like to thank the following people for helping to make the Aughnamullen Vintage Day 2019 such a success.  Thank you to all the men who cut the oats for us back a few months ago and transported them and stored them for us so we would have a plentiful supply for our vintage day threshing display.  Thanks to Dooleys Agriculture and Johnny Byrne for purchasing the oats from us.  Thank you to all who helped on the previous Saturdays before the vintage day to get the car park ready and thank you to Gabriel McCabe who levelled the car park for us and supplying his own machinery.  A special word of thanks to Ann Keenan who supplied all the hard workers that were setting up the vintage day on the Saturday.  Very much appreciated. 

We had a large volume of supporters of our vintage day attending and we are very grateful to the ladies and gents on the gate who worked tirelessly all day and we also thank Paddy Cusack for supplying the beautiful garden shed at our entrance.

We would like to thank Monaghan Plant Hire for supplying all the necessary equipment and also to Monaghan Pet Store who supplied most of our Dog Food.  Thank you to all our Trade Stands.  We had a lot of variety on the day and we are very grateful for your support.

Thanks to all the ladies in the kitchen who cooked and supplied all the food for the vintage day.  Thanks also to the ladies who were barbequing burgers all day too.  We take this opportunity to say a well deserved thanks to KEPAK Ballybay, RANGELAND FOODS Lough Egish and MALLON SAUSAGES Monaghan who sponsored all the burgers and cocktail sausages for our vintage day.  Thank you to Gerry Duffy for supplying the Ham, thank you to Gerry McElroy for supplying the vegetables for the soup, and thank you to Gifts N Things for supplying all the sweets and minerals and consumables in the hospitality tent.  We would also like to thank Watters Electrical for sponsoring the large TV for the hospitality tent.

There was a huge display of threshing on the day and we even were fortunate to have a steam thresher taking part thanks to Gerry Duffy.  Thank you to all the men who put on such a wonderful display of threshing.  Thanks to all the people who came in their vintage cars, vintage tractors and vintage motorbikes.  We also thank all those who brought along their vintage stationery engines.  Your support is very much appreciated. 

We would like to thank all our sponsors who donated money towards our vintage day.  We are very grateful for all your generous donations.    Thank you to all our judges on the day for the dog competitions, jiving competitions, vintage competitions, art competition and best dressed pumpkin competition.  Thank you to Teresa Linden for organising the Dog Show and to Christine West for organising the Jiving Competition.   

Entertainment was plentiful on the day and we would like to thank Aughnamullen Pipe Band, Aughnamullen Ceoltas Group especially Joe McGinn and Nadia Gallagher (Markey) and also to Damien Davis for providing a day filled with wonderful music. 

We thank everyone who helped us advertise our event especially those who put up signs and posters.  We would like to thank Cathal Martin, Lisdoonan for allowing us to put up a sign on his property.   

We had a great man on the day who kept everyone informed to what was going on and that man is John Doran.  Aughnamullen Vintage Club would like to thank John for the wonderful job he did on the day.  We are very grateful.  Thanks to Fabian and Gregory Murphy for capturing the day with photographs, video and interviews.  We look forward to seeing the end result.  DVD’s are available to order from any committee member €10 each.   

We would like to thank Aughnamullen GAA club for the use of the facilities and for their help for our vintage day.  We would like to especially thank Mary Duffy (Duffys Shop and Aughnamullen Social Center) who was extremely helpful to us over the few days setting up and on the day itself.   

Finally the Aughnamullen Vintage Club would like to thank sincerely everyone who helped us out on the day.  The weather was very good to us but the people were really good to us.  Thank you to everyone who came on the day.  Your support is very much appreciated. 

 

Dates for Your Diary: This Saturday night the 16th of November Gerrys Prepared Fruit & Veg Ballybay present their annual dance in aid of local Senior Citizens Groups in Lisdoonan Community Centre commencing at 8.30pm with music by DJ Stefan, Dermot Mc Connell & special Guest star Robert Mizell. Gerry & Deirdre Mc Elroy are good supporters of our club and it is hoped that as many as possible can attend.

Whilst on Saturday the 23rd of November the Annual Seamus Hanratty Texas Holdem Poker Tourament takes place in Aughnamullen Social Centre with Registration commencing at 5pm. Proceeds of the day go to local cancer charity Ballybay Cancer Society. Admission is €30 with optional rebuys at €20. Please support this if you can

 

Best wishes: Best wishes is extended to neighbours Blackhill in the Ulster Junior Club Championship Final on Saturday next at 5pm in Omagh against Buncrana(Co Donegal). Also to Clontibret who play Naomh Chonaill(Co Donegal) in the Ulster Senior Club Semi Final also in Omagh at 7pm and on Sunday Magheracloone play Gleann(Co Down) in the Ulster Intermediate Club Semi Final in Armagh at 1pm.

Challenge for Elaine Tate: Monaghan will play Cavan in an Inter-county Senior challenge game to raise funds for Elaine Tate, wife of Anthony Tate who formally played with Rockcorry on Sunday December 1st in Clones. All proceeds will go towards adapting the family home to aid Elaine in her recovery from recent illness. Tickets for the game are now on sale priced €10. Please support this worthwhile cause.
