Doohamlet club notes

August 14, 2019

Seniors:  Blayney  1-09  Doohamlet 0-10

Sport can be so so cruel as Doohamlet players and supporters alike found to their cost on Sunday last when the final whistle blew and Doohamlet had lost a game they dominated from start to finish.  Playing against a stiff breeze in the first half Doohamlet were more than happy going in at the break only one point behind in a low scoring half 0-04 to 0-03.

Doohamlet were in total control of the game and all their match ups having excellent games, Martin Hughes, Declan Walsh, Conor Marray and Gavin King were magnificent in defence and Blayney struggled for scores.  In the third quarter Doohamlet pushed for home with scores from Colin Walshe, Hugh McGinn, Sean Markey,Paul McArdle and Barry McBennett to leave three points separating the sides with 10 minutes left.  Blayney were making no inroads on a resolute Doohamlet defence and were somewhat lucky not to receive Black cards.  Ironically the player who bundled a speculative ball to the Doohamlet net for the decisive goal was one such player and Doohamlet were left rueing a game that got away.

As stated there were a number of outstanding performers, Martin Hughes, Gavin King, Conor Marray and Declan Walsh in defence.  Colin Walshe and Barry McBennett controlled midfield and up front  the McGinn brothers Barry and Hugh, Paul McArdle Sean Markey and Damian Ward all contributed in a magnificent display.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Ryan Ingram who sustained a nasty hand injury on Sunday last.

All is not lost however as Doohamlet have three games left with a trip to Carrick on Saturday evening next first up.  Throw In 6pm
