A more economical Magheracloone booked their place in the semi final of the senior championship at7 the expense of a wasteful Castleblayney in this well contested round 3B qualifier game that was played in difficult and wet conditions in Inniskeen last night.

Magheracloone were forced to field without the services of influential midfielder Gavin Doogan while Ciaran Hanratty made his first championship start for Castleblayney.

At the end of a low scoring first half where chances were at a premium but a half also in which there were goalmouth incidents at both ends, Magheracloone held a one point advantage, 0-4 to 0-3, the lead point by Alan McCahey from a free in the 27th minute.

Magheracloone added points by Alan McCahey, free, Michel Metzger also a free and Allan Kieran pushed Magheracloone 4 clear but by the 25th minute Castleblayney had the margin  down to the minimum despite being reduced to 14 players with the red card dismissal of Kealan Duffy. Alan McCahey put Magheracloone two up from a free in the 26th minute with Martin McElroy bringing Castleblayney within a point again but they were unable to turn it around completely as Magheracloone held out for the narrowest of victories.
