Conor McManus was doing his best to play down expectations after Monaghan's impressive Ulster SFC quarter-final victory over Tyrone.

The Clontibret sharpshooter scored 0-6, including an incredible point from play from near the right sideline off his left foot, as the Farney County left Healy Park with a 1-18 to 1-16 win.

"We can't control what people or the media say, or anything outside of our group," he told the Irish News.

"All we know is we have a semi-final in two weeks' time, and we're only looking at that. We're not looking at anything else and we're looking at a tough team. Fermanagh had a great win last night, they kept Armagh to seven points which was a massive achievement.

"It was only a first round game, it's only the first round of the Ulster championship. There's a long way to go in terms of getting to an Ulster final. Fermanagh are a tough side and they're going to be very hard to beat."
