April 30, 2018

Ratoath's Padraig O'Hanrahan with Enda Fitzgerald Kildalkey

Ratoath 3-21 Kildalkey 3-15

Ratoath emerged 6 point winners in this entertaining game played in perfect conditions for hurling in Kildalkey last Saturday evening.

The game got off to a hectic start with both sides beginning brightly with notably Colm O'Riordan making 2 fantastic saves to keep the home side from establishing an early lead. Ratoath managed to steady the ship and midway through the first half period David o'Reilly's young charges came into their own with Cian Rogers and Daithi McGowan both picking some fine individual scores including a goal from Rogers. As a result the visitors help the upper hand at half time leading 1-12 to 1-9.

Ratoath began the second half in fine style with a well taken goal from Darragh Kelly soon followed by a couple of excellent points from Padraig o'Hanrahan. It was noticeable  Ratoath's defence also looked to be in better shape in repelling Kildalkey's attacks. That said Kildalkey battled hard and responded with a goal and a point mid way through the second half and it took  another goal from Rogers to put the result beyond doubt as the scoreline read 3-21 to 3-15 in Ratoath's favour. All in all a brilliant display from this youthful Ratoath outfit( with an average age of just 20) who maintained their 100% record and ideal preparation for the championship in 6 weeks time.

Kildalkey Report

Kildalkey 3-16 Ratoath 3-21

Kildalkey senior hurlers went under to a young fit Ratoath outfit at home on Saturday evening in the Division 1 Hurling league game played in glorious sunshine.

Last years beaten finalists were quick out of the blocks with 3 points from Gary Kelly, Paul Fagan and Conor Kearney but Ratoath soon found their feet and quickly found they're range and hit 4 points and followed up with a goal to get they're noses in front and were never headed after that. At one stage the team in blue and gold led by 1-10 to 0-4 but the village hit back with points from Kearney, Nicky Potterton, Evan Fitzgerald and a goal from Paul Fagan. A point from Ducksy Doran closed the first half scoring but Kildalkey trailed 1-12 to 1-9 at the break.

Ratoath again started the second half well and after scoring a couple of points they had the ball in the Kildalkey net twice in 5 minutes leading by 9 points 3-15 to 1-12 with Conor Flynn making an important save it could have been worse.

Kildalkey had no answer to their relentless running and fitness but then 2 Kearney points and a quick 1-1 from Fagan who was proving a handful and a Nicky Potterton goal saw the home side back with in 3 points of their opponents but Ratoath kicked on again and hit a flurry of points 5 from frees and 1 from play while Kearney again and 2 frees from Potterton closed the scoring for Kildalkey who finished up on the wrong side of a 3-21 to 3-16 score line Both sides were missing some players but played well in a high scoring sporting game.
