Training levels- Going too far? I agree its a sport played by amatuers but you either want it or you dont, and if you are only prepared to train twice a week well play at a lower division. I mean lets be honest training 4 times a week isnt a lot. To be healthy & actice the recommended training load is 3 times a week. Thunderstruck in all honest any coach/strenght & conditioning coach worth there salt should be incorporating ball work into there fittness right from the word go be it hurling or football and likewise for our under age as well. I really feel that a strict calendar should be put in place with regard to games so players know where they stand from the start of the year and can plan ahead. This can be hard on players/coaches/managers with young families who sacrifice a lot of time. I also feel a two week break would be a good idea where players can take a holiday, after all we should never under estimate the importance of rest and recovery Euroman , 07/02/2012 at 10:14
Looking at Westmeath my whole point about stephen bray is i still think he can improve this year to be honest stamullenman , 07/02/2012 at 10:06
Looking at Westmeath Yes I agree that we can push on and challenge for promotion whether it happens or not. And to be honest yes of course westmeath will try everything to win 1 it would guarantee manager stays as long as he wants to regardless of any other results as even after winning first ever leinster the one thing that annoyed westmeath was not meeting and beating us. To them beating meath is the holy grail. How do I know this cause I live in the place most of the year. Up point about this weekend is I don't have to drive 80+ round trip to see us playing But honestly if meath turn up and only play half as good as last week the will still win. Westmeath are in dire problems without the garrycastle lads. Yes this game is the one they want to win and they be happy been relegated if the could beat us. And meath should not think we go up to mullingar come home 2 points in bag. They need to be focused on job in hand and a easy victory awaits them. So no real test for banty if they perform, and if they do not well then I see a sloppy nervy win that will have me and everyone else questioning these players attitudes royaldunne , 07/02/2012 at 09:56
Looking at Westmeath If we beat Westmeath next and feel we will defeat Louth, thats 6 pts and guaranteed survival, having defeated all three teams at the bottom of the division. With that out of the way, hopefully the lads can then relax somewhat but still aspire to much more and concentrate on having a real go at the stronger teams in the division. With Kildare and Derry at home, these are two matches we must win to be in with a shout of promotion. And right now they look winnable. That leaves Tyrone and Galway, very tough away matches. Lets hope these games aren't written off as the type of games we can afford to loose if things don't start well on the day (or indeed resign ourselves, as always losing in the league anyway). A Tyrone victory is the most probably outcome, but if we could get something from the Galway match, division 1 is attainable. Things never go exactly as you would expect, so I feel we will probably finish 3rd or 4th and miss out. But the important thing is that the team and management try their very best to win every match, rather than merely settle for mid table respectability. The bit of hunger, a winning mentality and self belief is what Meath have lacked when they go on their travels in previous seasons. Address that and we can look forward to possibly hosting Kerry at PT in the near future. GlasagusOr , 07/02/2012 at 09:36
NFL Division Two Match Ratings to Date Freeballmadness. What? Firstly its westmeath we playing on sunday in mullingarSecondly please tell me how you can say kildare are best team in group? Tyrone beat them off the field on saturday Taking it as a whole rather than weekly tyrone are head and shoulders above the others including kildare as they proved on saturday Can't see tyrone loosing a game in this division. Where I can see kildare having games that could either way against derry galway and us to a lesser extent. But are you been ironic or serious? royaldunne , 07/02/2012 at 09:10
Looking at Westmeath What is the significance of wearing this top??anyway, Further to the above comments, Meath should not look at the glass being half empty, we should be pushing on in this league to try win it, not to keep saefe, I can guarantee most teams wont want to play meath in thhis division so up to us to set the standards. Going on what Ive seen at weekend in this division, Meath are every bit as good as the top teams in this division. tackleberry , 07/02/2012 at 08:11
Looking at Westmeath he has had that on for all the matches this year I have noticed. BigJoe14 , 06/02/2012 at 21:59
Who will win the Senior Championship? Seneschalstown are shaping up well with the new manager this year although it will be hard to beat damien as coach. I think seneschalstown and don/ash in the final. Jus my opinion footballmadness , 06/02/2012 at 21:58

NFL Division Two Match Ratings to Date I agree with jinxie. We arent the best in our group. We have great forwards but we dont have a midfield yet footballmadness , 06/02/2012 at 21:47
Looking at Westmeath Good Lord if Stephen Bray doesn't look up to scratch after last saturday night them he would be the greatest footballer alive on form, can't understand that opinion. Give Walsh a go in the middle and leave the rest as is, the more game time these lads get together the better, a couple of wins in our first two league games will give good confidence going into the home game with Kildare so winning in Mullingar is as important as winning in Navan last Saturday and we would be well advised not to take anything for granted, no doubt Westmeath will rise their game with Meath in their backyard. NFL Division Two Match Ratings to Date If Meath lose next weekend I would give us 0 out of 10!! ziggy32001 , 06/02/2012 at 21:20
NFL opener - Meath v Monaghan Ollie 99I think you are way too negative to be honest,Graham Reilly gives us a good option on the wing,as regards breaking ball I agree with you here,I would suggest moving Burke to the half-back line, well capable of winning a lot of breaking ball. ziggy32001 , 06/02/2012 at 21:18
NFL opener - Meath v Monaghan manager5yeah he seemed to be very happy to beat his native side,a bit too excited if you ask me,although 1-13 from play is a fine score, but yeah I didn't even think it was that cold!! ziggy32001 , 06/02/2012 at 21:16
NFL opener - Meath v Monaghan banty said he was delighted to score 1-15 in "the depths of winter"! manager5 , 06/02/2012 at 21:12
NFL opener - Meath v Monaghan It's cack football lads. We run the ball out of defense with not outlet on the wings to kick to. Why? Can't remember seeing one player kick a pass inside our 65. It's very similar to Cork's game. Run ball high up the pitch and then kick it to the 2 corner-forwards with Bray the outfield playmaker. We didn't really have a full-forward untill Joe Sheridan came on and he made a big difference. Layed the ball off. Dropped deep and picked out one beautifull pass down the right wing. Gilsenan playing deeper was an improvement too, he can kick a pass. Toibin's there to win breaks and he didn't win much.Kickouts are bad. Tyrone and Kildare will blitz Mark Ward and Kenny can't win every break. We did use the short kickout and yes, our full-back line can run the ball out but they never contributed to any scores. Cork, Kerry and Dublin have proved that you can still win clean ball from kickouts if you put it wide and allow space for the midfielders to attack the ball. We don't do that. NFL Division Two Match Ratings to Date Fair enough marks could argue the toss on a couple of them. As said only reason I had tyrone lower was only 3 points in first half. But I do admit was off mark with initial marks for galway. And my logic again would be they were away in derry tyrone in croker sort of second home for them. But look forward to your ratings next week lillywhite. royaldunne , 06/02/2012 at 20:55
