Meath versus Galway

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well, only a week to turnaround for the Galway game but some things are pretty clear. Menton is not cut out to be a midfielder, McGill exposed too often at full back, Sheridan just not at the level required.

Also, the point was made on the other thread. Meath spending ages out warming up and the opposition warm up much less but his the ground running. Happened against Kildare and also last night. Sub options were very poor last night. Where were Alan Douglas & Bobby O'Brien?

I think significant changes needed for the next game. This team is what I would go for but we really are limited.

Hannigan

Power
Menton (either here or not on at all, at sea in midfield)
McGill (exposed at full back but worth a go in the corner)

Conlon (worth trying here )
Keoghan (Need his leadership out here as midfield third is where we are losing games)
Forde (need his tenacity here)

Douglas (Worth a try in midfield, good engine and actually kick passes the ball forward)
Flanagan (Think he is worth a start now)

Toher (Not convinced about him for midfield but good option for frees)
Biggy
COS

McMahon
Newman (if fit otherwise Sean Tobin)
Lenihan

Now I know that the chances of this team being picked are about the same as Leicester winning the premiership but I have been to most games this year and feel Andy still learning the ropes a bit. It really is damage limitation stuff at this stage and survival in division 2 the only objective for the season.
Does anyone know the situation with Harnan & Tobin? how long are they out for?

Differences between Andy McEntee and Mick O Dowd Gameplans Should they be visible at this stage.....Yes
Are they visible? No WhY? Because gameplans non existent for both. Where to from here? Div 3
Visible improvement this year??.....a wider range of mickey mouse excuses on this forum .....lads need rest.....take years to clear up mess after Micko.....What bulls..t
Conclusion We have maybe 6 players at inter county standard, we need at least 9 more We have a novice manager who has an impossible task in those circumstances......... County Board doing a good job with financial matters only. Very poor coaching development in County. If not then,by whom and when are coaching standards measured. Where are these results seen?

I wonder did Andy make a mistake picking Gerry in his first venture into county senior management? Perhaps when the aura of Gerry's inclusion settled down we might have been better off with a less well know but more experienced assistant to guide Andy through.

Every player that wants to play for Meath was given a chance, barring injury and u21s we have what we have.
I would expect a reaction to last night v Galway , we not as good as we were v Derry ( they doing well today v Kildare) and not as bad as last night. The truth lays somewhere in between. Consistency is now Andy biggest hurdle

Ronan Jones has been arguably the best midfielder at club level over the last two years, and he can actually catch kick outs which we are in dire need of. I know he's only back from injury but he needs to be brought in

Sure Royaldunne has us backed to be promoted ! And he was pushing it after the Kildare hammering !! His attitude is Andy will sort this out but very little argument to back it up! I think we stand a good chance against galway because its at home ! Away from home forget about it !

that doesn't matter to some, they want instant success, after loosing 2 league games some calling for heads. Lucky they only twinkle in eye when Sean had his first few years.

Its not andys fault we dont have the players! Look if anyone has a chance to turn this around then he is the man but Royaldunne you need to get realistic! By the way no body wants him to go or anything of the sort! I am fully behind him staying for at least the 3 year term !

What to aim for promotion? If it don't happen then so be it. But aim for it anyway. Ever hear the expression aim high? Our problems of past was acceepting defeat or mediocrity. Remember we did great to survive in division two? Or going toe to toe with Tyrone for 20 minutes cause the really a division one team? I guarantee you won't hear that from Andy. Go out to win, if you don't b****ck the lads and drop those that aren't willing to put head on line.

Its wide open and its only february. plenty of ball to be played yet. Tipperary thumped Galway last year so I wouldnt be overly afraid of them. Derry bet Kildare, who saw that coming. We won our first two games several years ago and were relegated. Sure we are no world beaters but just relax and stop second guessing the manager. He is an all ireland winner as is gerry and Donal Curtis. People wanted Boylan gone a year before he won a leinster. Patience is a virtue bestowed on few but a gift to all. Down eventually had to get a result. They too are a proud county with a great football tradition.

I literally have no idea what your talking about? Aiming high is all well and good! But we need to be realistic of where we are! You are coming out with ridiculous statements time after time!! The performance last night was terrible! Andy's performance so far has not been great let's be honest! And please stop with this argument of the players are scarred ! The only players that mcentee has brought in is Sheridan , Carry and Toher!
So this is mostly the same squad as last year !
