a) Who would you personally choose to start in nets at the weekend? GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 01/02/2017 15:48:03 1950933 Link 0 |
O'Rourke is the best keeper we have by a distance. I don't buy this "he's a liability" talk. Ok he's been sent off a couple of times, the one against WH I still think was harsh, it was a frontal charge more than anything else. I think a lot of the criticism of POR comes from people who have a certain perception of him and don't like what they perceive to be his personality. Or they were put out cos he sent a tweet after being sent off & everyone loses their mind. It wasn't the cleverest thing to do but hardly a hanging offence. So for me there's no question about who it should be. He's not perfect, but he's the best we have by a long way and when you compare the mistakes he's made vs the games he's played I think this is pretty clear. Very difficult to say,but have a feeling POR will be chosen.

Joe has been included as an option for a last minute smash and grab I would presume. Think POR has been given enough chances at this point so I would like to see new blood between the posts

POR is probably the better goalkeeper and will be picked to start against Kildare. Who's kickouts are better? Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 01/02/2017 16:47:17 1950965 Link 5 |
I can't believe there is even debate over this, POR is far better than hannigan/Joe, not even close, if we start with hannigan/Joe we'll be in for a rough year redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 402 - 01/02/2017 17:03:33 1950974 Link 1 |
I would have said Robbie Burlingham tbh, but anyway, in Andy I trust. I would pick POR over the other two LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1434 - 01/02/2017 18:24:19 1951001 Link 4 |
Wouldn't have por and would give anyone else a chance in competitive games to see if their distribution is up to the required standard. moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 484 - 01/02/2017 18:51:54 1951010 Link 1 |
Thinking about it a bit more, I'd put Donald Trump in goal. Shut no one would be able to see the goals, with the hair ang the amount of orange glow he's got on, it'd blind anyone. He'd delegate kick outs , so no problem there either. Perfect! moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 484 - 01/02/2017 19:01:10 1951013 Link 0 |
Por kixk outs have cost us dearly in some very close games, thinking particular of Roscommon, that been said he had a a better shot stopper than hannigan, Joe is not going to be a keeper.

This Joe nonsense needs to stop. The silly season is over and the league starts Sunday. We need to be pushing on into Div 1 next year. The_Ripper (Meath) - Posts: 180 - 02/02/2017 10:54:01 1951167 Link 0 |
I don't disagree with a lot of what you're saying but surely that's the talking point? Going with three goalkeepers, one of whom took brickbats on here last year for his performances and another who is a former county forward. Also a good few people think, like yourself, that Burlingham should have been selected in place of Hannigan, so that's worthy of debate too.

I hear ya...I'm just letting some steam off. I'm personally embarrassed answering questions about the whole Joe situation to people from other counties. Our mid match collapses in recent seasons have made us a big enough laughing stock as is without the need for trying to reinvent our second most controversial player of recent times as a goalie! Would expect Andy to revert to Paddy as first choice Sunday and reserve is simply anybody's guess...Hannigan a hesitant shout The_Ripper (Meath) - Posts: 180 - 02/02/2017 12:15:34 1951203 Link 0 |
You guys see these players much more than I do. Any ideas why Andy might have gone with Jack instead of Robbie?

Robbie is a bit small and I just wonder if that is the reason. He would be the least commanding out of the keepers that we looked at.

Is Robbie small ?, would have bet the house that he is taller and heavier than Hannigan just looking at them. Could be wrong though

You could be right, but he seems smaller and less commanding in my view.

Agreed I'm sick of this in Andy we trust the only great thing he did was get Alan forde back because it just looks like he selected lads from the minors he knew years ago. Onto Joe can anyone see joe pulling off a Stunning save in croker cause I can't and that no disrespect to the man he just doesn't have the movement for it . The first thing that was said to me at Louth game was look at size of him he'll take up half the goal. He been a great servent to the county but he is not a goalkeeper even his kicks off the tee where high into the sky. And this slating of POR just for his bad kickouts needs to be knocked on it's head , over last few years he has had statues in front of him half the time. And jack and Robbie have looked good in the few games this year with there kickouts but there is far more movement on the back line looking for the ball which is just as well as midfield looks very poor still. And people seem to forget that POR has stopped a fair few points from being points reaching up and catching them, along with that every time ball is pumped in he is solid under it and in a crowded area he still is most likely to come out with it which being honest I think it's something that Jack and Robbie don't have. He is not perfect but still the best we have in that position.

Paddy O'Rourke is a full forward come goalkeeper, look anything is better than last number of years and I have faith in Andy and you should trust him as he has pedigree, as for Joe been controversial? Who gives a flying ****? . Joe did absolutely nothing wrong, ref made a bad call, so you shouldn't care, As for the other controversial player you speak of, I presume you mean gg? Well I'll tell you what I'll take a team full of Joe's and ggs over the pussy footing brigade you seem to want anyday and twice on a Sunday. The permanently offended has no place in Meath football, if it's not to some people liking they can go watch tennis.

A few days before the league starts, and all the talk is about Joe, rather than the rest of the squad. I guess Andy McEntee may have achieved his aim! anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 02/02/2017 21:52:08 1951357 Link 6 |
