Just read on SportsJoe(awful sports news channel I know) that big Joe plays club football in goals and is called into the extended panel. Is he any good?

I have never heard of that news channel, but they obviously don't believe in fact-checking. He played a little club football in goals when he was a teenager but he hasn't played in goals for the club since he was about 16/17. So that's about 15/16 years ago. Rumour has it that he will be tried out as a keeper, but I will believe it when I see it. Wasn't the same rumour spread about Brian Sheehan of Kerry earlier in the year, and that proved to be nonsense. I the suspect the same will be the case here, although stranger things have happened in Meath football in recent years.

It's quite popular-mostly on Facebook etc. Put I take most of what they say with a pinch of salt, they have proven to be wrong before. Someone commented under the article saying it was untrue, wanted to confirm it here with people who how the score. But ur right, nothing would surprise me I suppose.

Played tonight. Very strange given there are 3 or 4 very good keepers in the county.

I know it's only a challenge and all but this is a little worrying if I'm being honest. All for trying things out this time of year but this is odd. Doesn't send great message to young goalkeepers in the county. No problem with Joe being back in the panel though but can't see why it's as a keeper.

It is not for us to judge, Joe id speculate is been brought back for experience in dressing room, our former manager decimated the team, and got rid (either by design or not) every player who had beating dubs apart from Graham Reilly, do you really expect to see jpew as regular number 1 ? No, however we have been playing a outfield player there for years so I guess its not that surprising. Andy knows best and we must back his decision especially in his first few games

I wouldn't stress too much about a challenge game in December to be honest. Its a bit of a strange one, but I'm sure other decent keepers in the county will be given their chance. I suppose if you are to look on it positively, Joe offers all of the advantages of Paddy ORourke (good under the high ball, long kick -out, the ability to kick a 45 and then balloon the next 4 wide), with hopefully none of the brain-farts that POR likes to throw in from time to time.
Probably of more significance for the long term, is Hannigan starting in the nets. It will be interesting to see if he gets a run there, or if the keeper is changed around for every game.

Doesn't make sence at all. I don't think the Moore's goal keeper is the best in Meath I don't think he will be number one shocked if he is.

I wonder Is Andy thinking if Joe was good enough for goals he could taking the long range frees. He might be better option than POR. Even though Joe was never than great with the frees himself. That's the only think I can think of.

I think a lot will be surprised with what Andy McAntee will do. I dont know his style very well but. I was always thinking he will try new things I say there is a lot more to come yet, I am excited. Pity hope its not true that Harry Rooney is going to the the US next year. That's a massive blow our best player from last year IMO. Great to see Menton back though :) and Rory O'C.

And we are off, I have said already that all the people on here who slated Micko and his team were rejoicing 3 years ago when he got the gig, same now despite all the "at last we have the crew in place" the negativity is starting

Doubt he'll take free's, hes probably the 3rd choice free taker for his club. Does anyone know how many goalkeepers are in the set up? Anyone I ask doesn't know whether POR is in but from what I hear Burlingham from Simonstown and the Don/Ash keeper is.

Conor McHugh is not part of panel since McEntee took over he could not commit for this year

I said it on day one of mickos tenure that if we tried to get a poorer manager it would be very hard, unfortunately I was proven right time and again. I dont care if Andy brought mcquillan out of retirement and stuck him in goals, as andy been a actual ic manager of the highest quality he would know best. And has my unwavering loyalty and support for 3 years, but I hope its 10

Great to see Joe back. Not surprised that he's in goals as he showed us his diving skills in 2010. Probably in for the value of his kickouts and he is good under a high ball.
