Kiltoom!!!! Last time I set foot in that place was an infamous National League match back in 1990 where we got the mother and father of a hiding in the lashings of rain, a 16 point defeat as I recall, the scars still run deep. Hope its a good run out for the team but sadly I will not be present as the handbrake still has purchases to make for the festive season and for some reason my presence is necessary.

I remember that game alright- we got an absolute hammering - probably the worst I ever saw us getting. Roscommon weren't even flattered by the 16 point win! The memory is playing up on me as I'm entering old age so I may be very wrong, but I didn't think it was lashing down that day - I thought it was the cold and wind that were the problem. Wasn't the game originally fixed for Hyde Park, but when we arrived there, there was a sign on the gate saying it had been switched to Kiltoom. When we eventually found our way there, we had to leave the car at the bottom of a hill and walk up to the pitch, because the cars couldn't get up the hill with the frost on the ground. As I say, I may be miles off with that, but that's how I remembered it. I do remember getting a hammering off Kerry down in Tralee around the same time, or a few years earlier on a completely waterlogged pitch. Fire brigade pumping water off the pitch before the start. I think we scored 1-1 or 1-2 for the game with the goal being a Jack O'Shea own goal. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 17/12/2016 14:46:35 1940663 Link 6 |
I remember seeing him play in goal for Seneschalstown when he was only a young lad. He was good too. Probably good enough to make it as a county keeper if he wasn't even better out the pitch. I couldn't see it working now though, - sure he probably hasn't stood in goals for about 13-14 years.

Didn't get to game, even though its not that far away from me, although kiltoom is a kip, I would have gone only for been under orders to go festive season shopping with her who must be obeyed, Joe as 1 ??? Where did that come from, him and Menton back. Could be interesting year ahead, but id keep joe as a impact sub and goal poacher royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 17/12/2016 17:01:06 1940676 Link 0 |

Yeah was originally fixed for the Hyde, we heard about the change on the radio when on the way down in the car, the Hyde was flooded and Kiltoom was no better as I can vividly remember Stafford kicking a ball towards goal and it stopped in a pool of water in the goalmouth, ''twas definitely wet sir. The next game out Antrim beat us by 12 in Casement but if I recall we won a play off against Tyrone and qualified for latter stages and low and behold won the League after two stuffings, halcyon days indeed.....

winning or losing doesn't really matter in these games, but the scoreline was huge for both teams for this time of year.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 17/12/2016 21:44:25 1940719 Link 5 |
