So now we know, we face the winners of Louth v Wicklow. A game against Wicklow I would expect in Aughrim as we had them in Navan last year but a local derby against the Wee County I would expect in Navan as we had to trudge into Parnell Park this year. Being on the opposite side of the draw to Dublin is no harm in my view and although there are certainly no guarantees I would think we have a reasonable chance of reaching a Leinster Final. Thoughts?? Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 14/10/2016 08:59:22 1926051 Link 3 |
Perfect opportunity to reach the Leinster Final and rattle the Dubs. New positive outlook will be brought to the county team this year and we need to get behind them. New Era, new ways to reinvent yourself! rightthere (Meath) - Posts: 128 - 14/10/2016 09:24:43 1926059 Link 0 |
Decent draw. Start off with a derby v Louth or Wicklow who kept us honest in 2015. Would prefer Louth tbh. A match against Wicklow would be Aughrim, no one wants to go there. Louth would most likely be in Parnell as we have no H&A agreement with them. Either that or will be a double header somewhere else in the province. If our hurlers emerge from the Leinster round robin it'll be either Wexford or Offaly. The priority anyway should be to finish at least 3rd to guarantee staying up. If we could get into the top 2 it'll be magnificent and would be great to have a crack at Offaly in Navan or Trim. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 14/10/2016 09:57:44 1926078 Link 0 |
If Meath hurlers get through the round robin and with the footballers playing either Wicklow / Louth I would hope the Meath County Board will be looking to get these games played as a double header be it Navan, Portlaoise or as maybe a triple header in Croke Park with another football / hurling game. I like may Meath supports would love to be shouting for 2 county senior teams playing in Croke Park on the one day, unlike this year when it was on Saturday and Sunday. anto_meath (Meath) - Posts: 108 - 14/10/2016 11:09:45 1926127 Link 0 |

Being perfectly honest that only game I want in Croke Park is a Leinster Final against the Dubs as double headers for quarter finals or semi finals in a stadium the size of Croke Park is utter nonsense these days and has no atmosphere, even the Dubs numbers have dwindled lately. Let us go to Aughrim or fight to have a potential game against Louth played in Pairc Tailteann and I would be perfectly happy playing a semi final at O'Moore Park or O'Connor Park. Well done on also including the hurlers in this thread. Both hurling and football deserve equal billing this year though when push comes to shove I expect the footballers to go further. Really looking forward to both codes next year. I would also encourage as many supporters as possible to support the hurlers during the league as you will know the team better come championship time. As a matter of interest, does the season ticket cover county football and hurling games? oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 14/10/2016 12:55:14 1926210 Link 0 |
Agreed. I think both Kildare and Laois will be better next year Tha this. So its a gradual thing, if we keep going, Louth, Kildare /laois then dubs. If we can take each step, who knows? I hope IF we get that far that Dublin have to be at their best to beat us (at their best they beat anyone). That's all we can ask, and if they have a all ire drawn game then we just may take them. New year new management, new optimism. Hon the Royal royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 14/10/2016 12:56:07 1926211 Link 0 |
No, the Season Tickets are code specific. So you'd need one for each code.

Is Bryan Menton likely to come back to the County Panel this year coming? GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 14/10/2016 16:13:52 1926298 Link 0 |
Sorry posted that last one in the wrong thread! GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 14/10/2016 16:15:54 1926302 Link 0 |
Meath/Louth would have to be in Parnell Park or maybe Croke Park as part of a double header. I don't think Louth are allowed enter home/away agreements since their grounds capacity is so low. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1643 - 14/10/2016 18:29:24 1926325 Link 4 |
Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath and Wicklow all fortunate enough to avoid Dublin in the draw. I know if you want to win Leinster you have to play them at some stage but the later the better. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 15/10/2016 09:36:27 1926411 Link 2 |
Agree but Longford have had some big wins in the last few years, usually in the qualifiers though.

Meath will be in action on the June bank holiday of next year. If they are playing Louth it will be on the Sat June 3rd in Parnell Park. If they are playing Wicklow it will be on Sun June 4th in Aughrim. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 16/11/2016 23:11:41 1934924 Link 0 |
Pathetic.. Parnell Park is a right kip. Awful place to bring children too, parking rubbish etc. Sorry but if Louth beat Wicklow(I expect them to do so),they should be made travel to Navan. It was in Parnell last year because Louth could not provide a venue. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 17/11/2016 08:26:40 1934959 Link 2 |
Not surprised by the Parnell Park decision. Navan could just about hold it and would be the preferred option but seems like Louth are unwilling to play in Navan against us unless they get a return fixture in Drogheda. And that is impossible given the standard of the ground there. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 17/11/2016 09:05:28 1934966 Link 0 |
So no home game again this summer brian (Meath) - Posts: 1954 - 17/11/2016 09:10:15 1934969 Link 0 |
Ziggy there is no home and away arrangement in Leinster with counties. Meath playing in Parnell Park for a championship match is like waiting for Bus. They have waited for ages for one and than all of a sudden two come along. Meath could be going to Aughrim if Wicklow beat Louth.
