Respect All Ireland Day

(Oldest Posts First)

All Ireland Hurling Day is the highlight of the year for all hurling followers, be they players or supporters, just as All Ireland Football Day is and should be.
On these two important days, all G.A.A. enthusiasts, supporters of both codes, should be free to watch or attend these games.
Arranging hurling fixtures at 12 midday and 6pm in Co. Meath on the first Sunday in September, is wrong.
All efforts should be made to reschedule these senior and intermediate hurling championship fixtures fixed for the 4th of September.

Absolute nonsense. Meath club games are first, second and third priority. Fixtures are already a disaster thanks to the Christy Ring, when do you suggest these games be played?

Play the games Thursday/Friday or Saturday without the minors. Games are fixed for Thursday this week so it's not unheard of.

If clubs cant play without their minors they should be able to fix it for Monday/Tuesday evening. Not fair asking minors to tog out at 12pm the day after and All Irelnad final either.

I can not believe that the fixtures comm put out these fixtures at a time when hurling is going so well in the county, Sunday morning and Sunday evening on All Ireland Sunday. i know alot of players who always take up their allocation of tickets for the final and there is no way can you play Sunday morning and then be able to enjoy the biggest day in the calendar other than staying at homer to watch it and if your an intermediate player you definitely wont be going. Its time for the fixtures comm to get off their high horse and change these before the clubs have to start writing letters to the CCC. Can the weekends not be swapped around hurling for football. Another potential issue is referees, have we got that amount of referees to cover all those games in one day.

"Thanks to Christy Ring" - you mightn't have meant it but a bit of an anti hurling tone here.

Fixtures clashing on All Ireland day is just one part of a big malaise in fixtures. It should be eminintly possible to keep that day free for hurling clubs. However, fixtures earlier in the year should be more compressed. Ulster Council playing just one championship game per weekend in the peak months isnt helping things. Also a quicker turnaround from League into championship is needed. All of this will contribute to making dates like all ireland day more accessible.

Was hoping to go the All Ireland. Will probably go watch club though in a very important game.
I dont understand why the senior games cannot be at 11.

Also, group A of the intermediate should be under lights at 7:30pm in navan longwood dunganny ashbourne etc
and group B the same on the monday night

just a total lack of respect for hurling, get it played asap so we have a full week for football championship.

clubs should just refuse to play

Anti hurling tone? You're just seeing what you want to see there. About 90% of my posts are about hurling. I've probably followed more Meath hurling than is good for me. My point about the Christy Ring is that from first round to final, last year the CR ran from May 2nd to June 6th. This year due to the replay and starting earlier it ran from April 23rd to June 25th. That's nearly a month's worth of lost championship fixtures we've to catch up on.

The games can't be played monday/tuesday/friday because we've next to no floodlights in the county. Navan and Dunganny are the only 2 pitches with floodlights within the hurling "area" of the county. Maybe you could throw Ashbourne in, but unless Dunboyne are playing someone it's a bit of a stretch for the rest of the county.

No lights in Navan only lights in Meath good enough for hurling is in dunganny
Anyway at last hurling meeting clubs asked for no games on the Saturday to enable people go to thurles and requested the round for Sunday 4th, very few of the minors play senior hurling with their clubs an awful lot of the team are u17 and cant play

Forgot there's no lights in Navan, even worse again. Why is it no hurling clubs have lights? I know they are expensive, but surely some club could afford them.

The Lights in Trim are good enough for hurling as I have played under them numerous times. The only issue is that its on the back pitch which is not always in the best condition for hurling.
