New players for Meath panel

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I was in Navan last friday and i left feeling very optimistic that the McEntee brothers and Donie Curtis can bring the glory days back to Meath football. The first port of call will have to be bringing Cian Ward back onto the Meath panel. He was mesmerising at times and still has a lot of offer. Cathal o'Dwyer also deserves a chance on his day he is the best corner forward in the county and is very unselfish on the ball. The Dunshaughlin goalie Andrei Smith really caught my eye. For a man making his debut he was decisive and his kickouts were top notch. His 6 backs and midfielders really let him down for the Tones goal by not communicating. Dunshaughlin had a guy with long hair playing for them and there is definitely a county man in the making anybody there could see that and he was the talk of the stand, i think his name is Jack.

What age is Cian Ward? Shouldnt have been discarded when he was but surely that ship has sailed.

From a forwards point of view I think that Ruari O'Coilean & Daire Rowe should definitely be brought back in.

You are hardly from Dunshaughlin. Cian Ward has been out of intercounty too long and at this stage is too old. O'Dwyer decent player but have we not got enough small corner forwards without adding another. Better off developing the ones who have been there and pushing Lenihan to his best. Micko has left a good young panel there, now McEntee can bring his stamp on them. By bringing in a flock of new players you are looking at another 3 years before they will have gotten to speed, fitness and strenght of intercounty.

Jack Hannigan, Sean Curran & Bryan Menton - Ashbourne
Daire Rowe - Syddan
Chris O'Connor - Bracks

After that I wouldn't bother with too many others. The nucleus of a good team is already there but I think we need good cover in the corner back positions (Curran & O'Connor), Hannigan has a fantastic kick out range I think he could be a more viable option than O'Rourke. Rowe is just a good young player I think he should be introduced into the team to further his development and Menton just simply has to persuaded to come back.

Same as all the Summerhill lads that come in, give it a year and then don't commit. Bar Gillespie the rest have come in and couldn't keep their spot so they "can't commit" and drop themselves off. Appears no interest in county football out that way.

Agreed. Most talented footballer in Meath and nearly all players I speak with agree. Still has it and not "too old" - what a ridiculous suggestion.

The wise men on here don't get it though. They either don't play themselves, don't go to games or just don't get it.

Mcentee will certainly give lads a chance if they are playing well, I'd have from what I've seen in the champ this year
Bryan menton
Dan Queeny
Alan forde
Young Rowe to name a few
A few minors to develop them

Lads calling for Cian ward I've no problem having him as he's a great talent. But it will come down to Andy and picking players who impress him.
I heard the last day Shane o rourke won't be playing much football at all due to injuries which would prob rule him out of Meath - any info on him ?

I have been told by some royal county friends young robin clarke from the duleek/bellewstown club has great potential.

Not been patriotic but think our own club man Jordan Brown & Ben Brennan could be in with a shout of joining the new Meath panel.

How old are they?

Plus how is James Conlon playing for the club?

There is a young lad I saw playing for Senchalstown second team recently, I think hes still a minor. Cathal Finnegan, was kicking 50s and booming outrageous long range efforts off either foot. Very slight lad but nothing a bit of strength and conditioning wouldn't sort out. Was he on the county minors this year does anyone know?

For the county panel, what do people reckon if we were to give Robbie McCarthy and Michael Deegan a run? Would they be interested? Deegan is a Meath man anyway, raised up here.

Jordan Browne would be 19/20 Ben is in his early 20s, Conlon playing well scoring 2/3 points game.

Browne is a goalie. Conlon corner forward and isn't Ben Brennan centre forward or centre back ?
