Now that Andy has more or less wrapped up the Meath job what are Meath supporters opinion on him? How much more can he get out of this panel of players? In my opinion I don't think the players are there regardless of who the manager is,but I wish him the best of luck the sooner Meath and Kildare can challenge Dublin again the better it will be for Leinster football. Don't want to sound smart, but this team has been going through the motions lack belief and fitness for county football. Can a manager improve this? Absolutely. Can Meath be more competitive? Absolutely. All I ask for is more fight and desire in the team. That is what we have lacked..

Meath have also lacked talent nothing a manager can do about that, but like I said best of luck to him

No it has to go through the process, but it is virtually assured that he will. Here is a little stat for you, Andy took a don/Ashbourne team to win the intermediate championship long before the quality players arrived, and to be very competitive at senior, he then took the Meath minors to Leinster final, and having suffered a horrendous defeat he gave them the belief to overcome a Tyrone team and ulster champions who were tipped for final he followed this up with beating Connaught champs mayo in all ire final. (many of that minors team are now underperforming on senior panel) he then went on to manage ballyboden who were 6th fav to win the Dublin senior championship, never mind winning Leinster championship and all ire champions. Micheal Dara McCauley said and I quote "the best manager I have played under" Now believe it or not the talent is there, maybe not to win all ire, but certainly to be in div 1, and be still in championship late july or August . That talent has been suppressed by poor management, it will hopefully re-emerge underneath the real deal. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/07/2016 13:42:19 1892267 Link 0 |

Just on the 2012 minors, you make it sound like we beat Mayo in the final that year. And Mayo weren't Connacht champions that year either, Rosommon were.

RD: 'Andy took a don/Ashbourne team to win the intermediate championship long before the quality players arrived, and to be very competitive at senior' - incorrect as they had some of the best young players in the county winning a few minor and u21's. A county would be very lucky to get 4 or 5 good players of a minor team who reached an AI-some posters think that they all should go automatically to senior inter county standard browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 31/07/2016 11:56:52 1892720 Link 4 |
Could well a case of people stepping aside to let Andy in to be honest..

That's what I heard, people were going to be nominated, but stepped aside.

Word is Andy MC has mad demands wants county chairman and treasurer to step down as they shafted him before wants total changes to championships knock out and starting when Meath bet also some high cost trainer with strength and conditioning man also with bigger fees than Banty had .. So looks like that won't work and maybe his get out clause Brownepat (Meath) - Posts: 532 - 31/07/2016 16:22:31 1892880 Link 0 |
Wouldn't mind Pete McGrath but Andys demands are fair imo... Too early for Callaghan keep him at Under 21. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 31/07/2016 17:29:15 1892916 Link 1 |
Pete McGrath has already said he's remaining with Fermanagh for another year, so I don't know how he could be realistically nominated. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1643 - 31/07/2016 17:46:11 1892939 Link 4 |
I find it difficult to believe those demands if Andy is serious about the job. It's the very same as saying up yours I don't want the job. And as for the comment that the demands are fair, what planet are you on? In fact those reported demands are so off the wall I will hold out in the hope that the rumour is wrong and that he is interested in the job. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 31/07/2016 17:57:18 1892954 Link 0 |
True, well I hope these rumours are false, because Meath doesn't need this. The co.board need to do what is best for Meath football

I think alot of the demands are for the good of Meath football.. The championship should be changed and a straight knock out is certainly better than what we have.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 31/07/2016 18:07:22 1892976 Link 1 |

Certainly a more competitive championship is needed, not sure if full knockout is he way to go. Perhaps with a beefed up league in which teams took the games seriously. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas so the bit about the resignations are an illogical addition to the demands and make the demands as a whole farcical imho. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 31/07/2016 20:28:54 1893112 Link 0 |
