63 clubs approx in Meath and on a great occasion in Croke park to which all were invited only 4 clubs in Meath bothered to show. Fair play to Kilbride, Summerhill, the Tones and the Michaels. Word is that no rep from co board there either Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1466 - 26/04/2016 14:51:07 1849729 Link 0 |
What was that like compared to other counties though? ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 26/04/2016 15:07:09 1849737 Link 1 |
Analyst, where did you get that 'fact' from? Trim for instance took about 50 juveniles. trim1 (Meath) - Posts: 162 - 26/04/2016 16:27:37 1849790 Link 0 |
I was hardly doing a survey around the county to see who attended the matches. I am referring to Laochra the event following the games where every club was invited to take part and carry their club banner onto the field as part of the event. As regards other counties i don't know nor care how many attended. Our proximity to croke park should ensure that almost all our clubs should have been there. My point is that for 3 clubs ( apparently St Michaels didn't take part in the parade) out of 60 plus to take part is embarrassing Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1466 - 27/04/2016 08:31:35 1849938 Link 0 |
I know that you are hardly doing a survey but if you are going to throw out statistics on attendance and use it to slag off clubs then get your facts right. I know that you were wrong with Trim, I wonder how many other clubs were you wrong with. The people involved with juveniles etc in the various clubs aren't usually on here to defend themselves. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 27/04/2016 10:08:38 1849973 Link 0 |
Sorry but if you read what i said now twice already i am not referring to clubs who brought juveniles. The FACT is that only 3 clubs took part in the event as specified. Sure a few lads from a neighbouring club went up to the match and brought the young lads with them, that hardly qualifies as their club taking part in the Laochra event. Your original FACT said that 4 clubs went. Now it's 3. So you can see why people aren't sure. BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 258 - 27/04/2016 11:58:02 1850026 Link 0 |

I would agree with Barneystie- If every club went to the event we would be marching for the next week. What value is all this parading to clubs, or have they not enough to do to prepare their own teams, look after their youth in playing and at their own expense with little help from outside. Its fine for CP to arrange these events as they are all very well paid for their day's work. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2340 - 27/04/2016 12:26:14 1850046 Link 1 |

The point is this was an event to a national audience to mark 100 years since the historic events of 1916, there was no cost to the clubs as tickets and food, refreshments were all provided. 80 thousand or so paying spectators all stayed to watch the event, maybe the significance of 1916 is lost on a lot of Meath gaels Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1466 - 27/04/2016 12:41:21 1850059 Link 0 |
I was part of the group of one of the 3 Meath clubs that did take part and I too was disappointing that only 2 other clubs in the county showed up. At our assembly are there was a list of clubs that were supposed to be there. The Meath list several other clubs listed that were supposed to be there but didn't bother showing up for example Ratoath, Simonstown, St Michael's etc. delbert (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 27/04/2016 13:08:27 1850082 Link 0 |
Spot on analyst , sad that our county board didn't even send any one or clubs couldn't bother to send 2 or 3 to representatives to this celebration royalpainter (Meath) - Posts: 874 - 27/04/2016 13:14:52 1850086 Link 0 |
Who really cares we have more important things to worry about in this county... ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 27/04/2016 13:49:06 1850099 Link 1 |
Analyst- 1916 would be better commerated by spending any extra money in helping families to keep their homes and not being put on to the street. It appears that the GAA is keen to get on every bandwagon just like the various political parties. They are also happy to accept sponsorship from a state utility EG who plan, if they are allowed by the good people of the county to blot our landscape. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2340 - 27/04/2016 15:18:48 1850147 Link 1 |
In fairness 1916 is hardly a bandwagon. I'd say since May 1916 there have been people intending on commemorating it. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1639 - 27/04/2016 16:48:29 1850190 Link 0 |
