Meath hurlers begin with a win

Great win last saturday for hurlers, Mick Burck not allowed play by football manager MOD, Yet Keith Higgins played for Mayo and Pa Collins played for Clare, who are we to stop a player from playing for his county

Burke told meath hurling management that he would not be taking part in the Christy ring this year anyway he hasn't hurled for months and that was clear to be seen in the last match he participated in. So no surprises there.

and its good he isnt playing when he does come in it upsets the routine of the lads and they dont like him swanning in mid season. if both managements could have sat down and worked out a training schedule and when he could have played league for both it would be more beneficial

My sources in Longwood say that Mick Burke wanted to play !!!

Davy Fitz and The Mayo football management let Pa Collins and Keith Higgins play at the weekend, Keith Higgins is playing next Saturday for the hurlers as well.
Both Clare Hurlers and the Mayo footballers are in the top three favourates to win their all irelands ,lets be honest we have as much chance of winning the football All Ireland this years as Kilkenny Footballers !!!

So why is a player been stoped from playing hurling with his county

Gas isn't , Mickey Burke "wanted to play" , not be part of the panel ? Lads standing on the line since last Nov/Dec with plenty of hurling in them and at every training session, rushing home from collage to train and I might add every bit as good as Micky Burke and have to watch this carry on. I'm reliably informed that all the dubs that couldn't get on to the first team in their CLUBS up and went!!!! I might add after taking up the playing time that should have been allotted to our own meath lads. Who the hell would want to play meath hurling .

Hurley 1
you seem to be very bitter , I suggest to you that you are a begrudger and have other motives to criticize the meath hurlers. You would be better off getting behind the team and hoping they get a good run or even win the Christy Ring Cup, Id

Martin Ennis said on LMFM after the Wicklow game that 'Antrim are going to walk the Christy Ring' and that he was delighted to get this group to the third weekend in the competition. I'm not saying Micky Burke is a medalhunter, but why would he commit to a team when the management doesn't even believe they can win anything? Micky has enough on his plate without lining out for a team that's only there to make up the numbers (even though that's all the Meath footballers will be doing too).
As well as that, Meath footballers have to peak for the start of June to avoid embarrassment in the Leinster, where as Mayo won't face competition until August and Keith Higgins has a great chance of silverware with Mayo going very well in the Nicky Rackard. Podge Collins was a big part of the league campaign for the Clare footballers as it was the only competition they can win this year. He'll be fully committed to Davy Fitz from here on out.

Hurley1, you're dead right. Disgrace that there was dubs on the panel in the first place, particularly when there were 20 Meath lads dropped before christmas. The very limited resources hurling has in this county and it goes to lads not good enough to start for their own clubs in Dublin.

Duel player 1 Not bitter at all . Just plain facts. I thinks the meath hurlers are a great bunch of lads .

Was anyone else at the game on Saturday? I thought the support was dreadful. For such a lovely day I'd would have expected a bigger turnout.
Probably 50/50 with Wicklow in terms of support which is disappointing

i was at it and stood on the grass the far side of the dressing rooms, as I walked in at 3.20pm I say the same faces as I saw in Ballycran , Armagh and Arklow. These are the real supporters

hurley1 (Meath) were you at all 3 matches ???

duelplayer is getting boring at this stage. So what if hurley1 was at or wasn't at the game on sunday or all three. He just made a point regarding the Dublin players, none of which were available on Sunday. It was a valid point and obviously hit a nerve.

Great win against Wicklow on Sunday but a sterner test against London this week. I suppose we should be all booking our tickets to head over to Ruislip as a measure of what type of hurling people we all are!

haha hurlinglad,

Any attempt to speak bad of the management and duelplayer will be on you like a flash. He's first on here after a win and to create a forum topic glorifying how the hurlers managed to score 37 times against the mighty Donegal. He's a big fan of the current setup.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big meath fan myself. Maybe not a 'real' fan the caliber of duelplayer but I really do hope the team can get something from the campaign. Best of luck to all travelling to ruslip at the weekend. They'll probably be up again it but with duelplayer there in support anything is possible

I am a fan of current management, was a fan of the last management and the management teams before them.and I will be a fan of the next management team appointed. I have not missed a Meath hurling match for 30 years and I will be traveling early on Sunday morning to make the match in London. I suppose I do defend the Meath hurlers , I admire all the hurlers I have seen playing in the Meath jersey over my time supporting the team, We have had some of the very best hurlers in the country playing for Meath, Here is some of my all time greats that played for Meath , Frank McCann, Christy Kelly, Jimmy Connelly,Tom Massey, Seamus Carney, Paddy Kelly the team that won the All Ireland B In 1993 against London and ran Offally to 3 points in Leinster quarter final in 96 gave me such pride and joy at the Time, more players like Nicky Horan, Declan Murray, Cathal Sheridan,David Martin Joey Tool,Stephen Clynch,Kevin Dowd,Enda Keogh,Niall Hackett, all of these were from the top drawer every one of them. I will not say sorry if this is boring you I admire all Meath hurlers. Unfortunately I was unable to play Hurling growing up due to a condition I was born with but I always loved the game and always will.
Sorry for boring you !!!!

Beginning uk I listened to the lmfm interview twice actually and not at one stage did I hear Martin Ennis say "Antrim will walk it". He did say that he was happy to get to the third game and in that respect I think he meant one game at a time ,He also added that he had the upmost respect for the players that are there . Touch of slander there......

For the sake of my sanity I dug up the interview again on soundcloud. Around the 7 minute mark he says 'we're hoping for a favorable draw, evryone is saying Antrim are going to walk this'.. I hoping for some sort of an apology from you, hopefully you might hear that at your 3rd attempt.
I would feel sympathy for Martin, he said he's asked 70 players in at this stage and I seen plenty of lads there on Saturday that were no doubt asked in, and that are training and playing with their clubs.

Great times and great men mentioned there duelplayer.. In your opinion what can Meath do as a county to get back to that level?

Beginning Uk if you read back the thread it was me that mentioned the fact that Martin Ennis had not directly said " Antrim will walk it" and he still didn't say it how you presented it in your first msg about it so you can dress it up or back track all you want. You've had something against the current management team since the start so puckfada is right the first slip up and your on the attack. Why would hurlers want to play with such negative comments. When they loose they are slated and even when they win the comments are negative!
