I will go for Keoghan,McGill,Burke

I think it is difficult to pick the corner backs, however Keoghan must be one of those..

Keoghan - McGill - McEntee

Mcentee with licence to go out the field as most teams don't play an orthodox full forward line

Agreed, Burke better suited at half back or half forward I think

Like to see McEntee further out the field, LFB will be one of many problem areas. Need to see panel before making choice

seadog54- I would agree with you and little point in picking positions when panel is not yet decided. It is quite obvious that extra players will be added and required and furthermore I hope that some of the mistakes of last year are not made -specifically playing forwards as defenders (not good for the player or indeed the team).

Are you picking the meath team for next year or the best 15 meath players based on club championship. McEntee is not a corner back simple as and talking about picking him there as he can move out the field to follow his man makes no sense. He is a forward and a damn good one at that and if MOD picks him anywhere else then it shows that he has learnt nothing in the last 3 years. Time to pick players in their best position.

Agree with Adamski, you need corner backs, should we play Graham Reilly corner back? McEntee is far too good to play there.Would Dublin or Kerry play a player like that there? McEntee also has a great engine and can track back from the half forward line.Playing him corner back in the hope that the other team moves his marker out the field is silly. If thats the case you might as well play Eamonn Wallace or Graham Reilly there, sounds stupid eh?

Its about what people think regardless of who is/is not on the panel.

Ziggy, did you contradict yourself in your last two posts!! I'm confused

Anyways did Dublin play Philly McMahon corner back this year and he was running up the field and getting scores.

I agree re reilly and Wallace as corner backs, but I've said it before would it be worth the experiment fo trying one of them at wing half back in the Jack McCaffrey type role of hairing up the pitch and plundering scores of the oppositions sweeper???

just a thought whilst we're throwing them out there??

yes but McMahon was also a man marker when he had to be.McEntee was destroyed when he had to defend against Westmeath in the second half.McEntee is a way better footballer than McMahon,McMahon is a way better defender.McCaffrey is a very good defender first and foremost..

Ziggy, not sure where you are coming from. Mcentee far better footballer than mcmahon, statement is totally without any credibility at the moment. He is a fine footballer with huge potential but totally unproven at inter-county level. McMahon has 3 all-irelands, 3 NFLs, 5 leinsters, all-star, played with leinster and ireland. Not alone all that he was hugely influential in Dublin winning this year's all-ireland. To make the erDublin team alone is a huge achievement never mind cement down a place. Jack Mc is more than just a good defender, he is all you want in the modern day football, covers ground, can take scores, delivers ball at the right time and has added the defensive duties to his game in last 12 months. The problem with this thread is yet again there is a fixation with Dublin, exactly like earlier this year. All the talk was about playing Dublin in the leinster final was totally disrespected westmeath. As I stated earlier MOD needs to start picking the best players in their best positions and surely to God after 3 years he has some idea of this and if he doesn't it really shows him up in a poor light. Honestly I think meath have a core of decent players that can forge themselves into at least a top ten team if not top eight but whether MOD and Co have the ability to do this with them is still questionable after 3 years.

I mean in terms of skill,I mean Mcmahon is a tough tigerish corner back, old school in many ways.My point was based on the sillyness of playing a player with the skill, engine and attacking flair at corner back..

As for Jack,it was suggested that Meath should try Wallace or Reilly in the half back line as they can run forward from deep.Jack does that for Dublin, but he can also defend very well. McEntee will continue to be unproven if he does not play in the forwards..

Jack McCaffrey joked that Diarmuid O'Connor got young player of the year when he was supposed to be marking him but that is not the first time Jack has been found wanting, same against Donegal when his man ran riot. Difference is that the Dublin team are packed with talent and it's not depending on Jack McCaffrey to do a man marking job, which allows him go forward and take his own scores. Its all relevant, when you are struggling like Meath are at the moment its tough on our talented players to even stand out because they are always on the back foot. As for McEntee, he probably could play anywhere and do a job but would love to see him certainly pushing forward rather than stuck in the corner.

McCaffrey has improved his defensive game though for sure.

Keoghan - McGill - ?

I'm really struggling for another out-and-out corner back. Which is incredible really. It seems like we've been in the same position for years, trying to convert lads into corner backs who just aren't comfortable there. I don't see McEntee as an option there at all, Burke is pushing on now and never looked that suited in the first place, nor did Tobin. So I'm at a loss...

...and when I say 'out-and-out', I just mean someone who first and foremost can do a tight marking job. Of course it's great to have a guy who can come forward too when need arises, but we really need stability in defence before anything else.
