How can this be after such a dismal season???

Well its up to the clubs,I would be stunned if he was back in.. I don't think a manager should go after one bad season, but the fact that he is there 3 years, has learnt very little and cannot get a young team to play more than 50mins before they fall to the floor has a huge bearing.A few managers we had lost their jobs who did better or had less time.It seems MOD wants 5 years to get to the last 8.Westmeath or Fermanagh can do that this weekend, and those managers have lesser squads and not been in their jobs as long as MOD.

Well he may not be back in again we'll wait and see what the clubs have to say but it's going to be very hard to look forward to 2016 with any enthusiasm if he is in charge. If he is retained then he needs to change his methods immediately, write off the last 3 seasons and start afresh, more of the same would be beyond stupid and painfully depressing.

If he cannot get a team fit enough for county football in 3 years, well thats enough of a problem. He should have learnt last year.If he stays will we see perhaps more silly positional changes?

I'm convinced Tobin was wasted this year, and McEntee is better served in the half forward line too,as for Keoghan? well.......

That's it, 3 years is more than enough time to get lads fit, they should have been fit enough in year one but we've never looked as unfit before, even under Banty (who is no great shakes) we tended to finish games much stronger, can't remember any bad collapses anyway.

Tobin was indeed wasted, he's a far better player out the field, Keogan ultimately was wasted also but I have to admit I got that one wrong myself, I thought he was needed at 6. In truth he's far better off in his natural position (where he is excellent) and what's actually needed is a solid, modern, defensive plan, something I don't think we've ever had, at least then whoever does play 6 will have plenty of support and won't be as exposed.

I said after the Tyrone game that mod will be there until 2017 and can't see that changing.
Constantly chopping and changing management every 2 years has done us no good over the past 10 years. Stability is needed now and he's in the process of putting together a good young squad. Let him finish the project.

I can see the argument for stability Jinxie, I've made it myself many times but the problem is we're getting worse every year. There doesn't seem to be a solid platform for stability under MOD, this looks like stability just for the sake of stability.

Changing management is a bad idea when there is progress or overachievement (EOB). Changing management when there is stagnation or decline and underachievement (MOD) with a better squad of players (with each year that passes), is the proper thing to do. We stupidly got rid of EOB for the wrong reasons; lets not keep MOD for the wrong reasons. We need a (semi) professional manager and management team (in ability, attitude and application).

Gonna have to disagree with you here, although I don't like too!

But can you explain some of these points?

1.After 3 years the team is not fit? They cannot last more than 50mins in most games.

2.What has MOD done tactically that we have said,ok,I see where this team is going,or we beat the other side tactically?

3.He wants 5 years to get us to the Quarter Finals? Hartdly ambitous.

4.The team clearly lack belief, confidence and real desire.Does MOD inspire confidence and belief in the players?

5.I understand the need not to change managers, but some previous managers did not get the time MOD did.

Finally Jinxie..

You say let him finish the project. In your eyes, what is the project?

Well the stability could be the exact same over the next 2 years.

If MOD does stay I hope he has finally realised his weaknesses he needs a new backroom team. 1st A new fitness coach that can get the team not only fit enough to play for a full game but can add some bulk too. Then he needs a selector/defensive coach who understands and can implement a proper defensive set up that our players can work to. If he does that then he has a chance, but without this I think we will be in the same boat again in 12 months time. Also I hope he stops talking about young players and building a team, that is only excuses.Once a player has the Jersey it doesnt matter what age he is, he is a Meath footballer and should play accordingly.

Number 1 - I would not go that far..

Number 2 - It is HIGHLY unlikely that the clubs will agree...

Came here to see the reaction after reading today that the Meath county Board are standing by Mick O'Dowd. Hopefully unlike the Kildare vote on Kieran McGeeney's management, MOD's future will be settled in such a fashion that there will be no recriminations afterwards. The fallout in Kildare is still felt to this day.

Let's assume for a moment that the clubs decide that MOD's time is up. Who are the likely candidates to actually put their name forward and will this happen by Aug 10th, or will it drag on and on and on.....?

moylagh that's a point I've been raising on these forums as well and tbh in my opinion if MOD doesn't get reinstated then that could very realistically happen and it would be the worst thing to happen as well

Did the county board stand by McGeeney? What was the situation there?
