County Board and Fixtures

(Oldest Posts First)

I know this post has come up in the past etc but I'd just like to get a better understanding of how or why games are fixed on a certain time or date?! Do the Board have any real structure in place or they just pick a date and run with it regardless?!

This year so far I have seen games being played 3 days apart for some clubs and then no games for a few weeks.

I've seen two teams down to play eachother in the league on a midweek night and tge two clubs are about 50miles apart!

I understand fixtures must be played but again there is a host of games fixed for the first week in June, smaller clubs rely heavily on Minor player etc, lads wjonhave just started a leaving cert. Just wait a week at least so the main bulk of exams has passed. Well and good for the big clubs and their 40 players.

I also know see that there is a game fixed for 12 noon in the only village in the county the holds a concert on the day of the concert!! Firstly, when has a game ever been played at that time on a Saturday?! Well best of luck to Ballivor getting through the 80,000 people to that game and even some Slane players who might live opposite side if the village!! Good planning.

I know it's hard work to put fixtures out but just a bit more thought and consideration would really go a long way.

On the Slane v Ballivor game you may not have noticed that game is now postponed.

Its pretty simple. The county boards attitude is 'just plough through the fixtures as quick as possible and dont give a dam about the players as long as the games are done and dusted!'

I agree, we have 3 important first team games in 6 days coming up. between knockout and league and champ. personally i'm eligible to played 10 games that were down for May. unfortunately out through injury but that is far too many games for an one person in 4 weeks

What about Simonstown, Trim, Summerhill and Wolfe Tones minors who all had important semi finals fixed for Monday evening 48 hours after 10 players having played for our county team in a leinster championship match. Does anyone remember the fanfare about player welfare......

Playing a glut of games together also means that if you have a few injuries then lads can miss lots of games and a team can fall off the pace. Why the rush this month when June is quiet. At this rate some teams will have nothing to play for come August

If I am reading things right then Kevin Ross played for the Meath Juniors last night, has a championship game tonight and an A league match at the weekend. Even better the Ratoath played Championship on Sunday, a number played for the county Juniors last night, they have an Intermediate Cup semi final tonight and A league at the weekend. Like, seriously you couldn't make it up.

When should they be played? Bear in mind there's an U21 hurling final this weekend and hurling quarter finals the weekend of the 19th/20th, both involving Trim and Ratoath players.

I think its mental the gap between the quarter finals and semi finals in the junior and senior 4 weeks is way to long dragging out the whole thing for weeks.
