Selling naming rights to Pairc Tailteann?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Carlow renamed their pitch Netwatch Cullen Park. Cavan sold their name and it's now Kingspan Breffni Park. For a tidy sum would people be in favour of Meath doing the same? For example Tayto Pairc Tailteann?

We can keep the Tailteann name while adding a sponsor and much needed revenue to the coffers. We are a very traditional county so I'm just curious if you'd be for or against this?

Can't see tayto being sponsor next year . Jack I would only sell naming rights if money was spent on specific Pairc t project eg new terrace or roof for stand etc

Royal painter thats a great idea. Leave it as Pairc Tailtean and sell naming rights of the stands. Tayto terrace, Jacksies end, The palace stand etc. Create good revenue and great advertisement. But its a great idea so be prepared to see it fall flat.

Would Garth brooks or foster and Allen play in it to generate a bit of cash?

I see wexford park have followed carlow by selling their name. Would be worth considering by the county board.

And I wasnt expecting Tayto to buy the name at least not while they are paying for the jersey. I was just using them as an example.

Is there anyone out there who would want their name on it in it's current state. Would agree to selling the naming rights if the money raised was used to upgrade it.

Grounds all around the country have done this and brought in additional much needed sponsorship. Its not a million years ago that sponsorship was banned on jerseys.

If the county board could tempt a good offer then I see no reason not to accept it, needs must and PT is in horrible condition. Plus with the way health and safety is going the threat of it being closed down altogether is a very real one in the not so distant future. I understand there would be a certain amount of protest but there always will be to such changes because some people tend to value tradition over progress, even when it's not to anyone's benefit.

Does anyone know how much money could be generated by such a sponsorship?

Depends on how good a deal could be hammered out, have anyone approached largos food? For instance, or kepak? Just to make enquiries, and im not just solely saying either of them would be one bit interested just giving examples of large companies that have connection to Meath gaa and have money.

I would not change the name from Pairc Tailtean. As a Country we have sold about everything worthwhile over the last 5-7 years! however, I would have no objections to selling name rights to the various stands. Anyone who appreciates the history of the place would certainly not change the name Pairc Tailtean. I know some folk would sell about anything as long as the money is right and it appears the GAA is going the same way. The pitch surface was one of the best in the country and I cannot understand why the county teams were let train there when Dunganny was available

You see browncows I just don't get that attitude, I mean at some point things just have to change, that's life, you can always enjoy history and look back on it fondly but for jaysus sake don't live in it. The name Pairc Tailteann doesn't really mean anything to me, watching Meath doing well in Pairc Tailteann does mean somwthing to me, means a lot to me infact and I'd far rather have a stadium that we could be proud of over a delapidated kip with an ancient name that some people can't let go of.

Browncows, What History are you referring too? The places is a pure hole. Any opportunity to raise so much needed funds, whether its naming rights of the stands or the entire stadium, should be snapped at.

They should crowdfund the development of stands.

Unfortunately any money garnered from selling naming rights would probably be a drop in the ocean compared to what it's going to cost to renovate the place, remember we're talking pretty much an entire rebuild here with all four sides requiring major work. However I hope the money is got and a good job is done, a value for money job at that, one that will last well into the future, nothing annoys me more when I look at the jobs that have been done on certain county grounds where huge money has been spent for little improvement, Semple Stadium and McHale Park stand out in particular where millions were spent on building one new stand in Castlebar and more millions spent on Thules where they still have pillars in one stand and half a roof on the other. Building one new stand does not constitute entire redevelopment of a stadium, but what Meath will be looking to do will be an entire redevelopment

dont think there will be much work done on the terrace as it is in great condition.

Irish_downunder-Maybe you should read Mick O'Briens book on the subject and then maybe you may appreciate what I said. I would not call it a hole as you suggest. Until it was cut up recently with training! the pitch had one of the best surfaces in the country. Tullamore have an excellent stand but the pitch in winter is a bog. The pitch should always come first. Their is considerable works to be carried out with the main stand including dressing rooms and meeting rooms. The complete development could be carried out in phases as finance became available. Croke Park should finance the development with a significant sum before it starts financing a second big stadium in Dublin.

Htaem -reading your post one would be forgiven for thinking that the name was part of the problem!

The name is only a problem if it stands in the way of progress but I understand Richie's point that a sponsor wouldn't cover the cost needed, but it certainly would help. Also I agree browncows that Croke Park should help counties with run down grounds instead of ever building another stadium in Dublin, that vanity project would be lunacy.

But I stand by my statement that the name Pairc Tailteann means nothing to me because it genuinely doesn't, what is very important to me is seeing Meath Gaa doing well and having an up to date home stadium.

Browncows. IM well aware of the history and in actual fact i find it insulting to its history to have it in a state of disrepair, the place is a kip, yes the surface is ok but that's as far as it goes, look at brefni park they kept the name just put sponsor before it, surely the pairc tailteen history and heritage deserve better than what is there at present?
And how long will it be before it closes entirely?? That stand is in the worst state of any in the country and will have to be closed very shortly, we cant hold games with just one terrace. If selling naming rights helps renovate pt then i am all for it.
