Any thoughts on new hurling manager.
Will he be from inside the county or an outsider.

should keep it inside the county, someone who knows the players and will be around to watch club games. Nick Fitzgerald or Pat O'Halloran IMO

In my opinion they need a manager from outside the county. Farrel has built a good strong young panel which needs guidance to further develop. the only man from meath I think would be up to the job would be John Gorry. The county board need to support the new manager more than they did with farrel though.

Glad to see teh Co Board are dealing with this now as opposed to in Oct /Nov. Regardless who gets the job without the full support of the board were going nowhere, IMO i would agree with names mentioned in earlier posts, other names from within i think are Paddy Kelly, Martin Ennis & John Andrews or a combination of them. PK defo wont take the shit the boys had last year. If its an outsider i would like to see James Heffernan interviewed and maybe johnny greville. of the 2 very different characters i liked James heffernans style of management last year with Kilmessan.

Just hope County Board articulate clearly what duties and responsibilities are for any manager. Also set realistic targets that are reviewed ,and acted on when required.Manager has to be given total support ,and not just lip service. Manager has to have clear development plan incl. fitness programme that includes Physical and Mental approach.Hopefully team spirit is the key element of any preparation. In this regard lessons can be learned about the current status of the county footballers!!

An article in the chronicle online a day or two ago said Paddy Kelly is the only candidate for the job, so presumably he's as good as in.

Was he not only one this time last year too and impression I got from county board was that they didn't want him there. Seemed like farrell was brought back after he told them he couldn't commit to it?

not surprised, think it looked abvious when the process dragged for so long with only one contender involved then suddenly Martin Ennis is parachuted in, why not paddy kelly ? credentials are as good as anyone else, think he might have won a chamoionship in kildare last week aswell as with kiltale in 07, come on county board explain yourselves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was there many hurling delegates at the meeting i wonder ?????
good luck to the new management team, for me i will support them anyway as meath hurling needs all it can get now.

Its not right - why would clubs bother voting - if the hurling clubs of the County thought he was good enough well then that is were your roots are THE HURLING CLUBS. The best of luck to the new Management I am sure all the clubs will work with them. It is just the new management start off with this happening. Hope Martin Ennis & Co have a simple plan & list as CB might not support no matter what they say.

It seemed like hurling took some battering at the CB meeting - no referee's (both County Final ref's from Kilcock) how bad is it. No U16 HC not enough time - HURLING HURLING HURLING don't mention the word to CB -

While Paddy Kelly undoubtedly has a good CV for the job, I think he'd be a bit too divisive for some in the county. That said, it doesnt seem a very transparent or accountable system where nominations are ignored and the committees man just gets elected. You cant really blame it on anti-hurling bias since it was a hurling committee from hurling clubs who made the decision.

On a side note I'm fairly sure there was an U16HC, did Na Fianna not win it?

Just on the U16 Hurling as quick look at the Meath Website shows the U-16 Hurling was played early in the year as always there was only ever 1 U Hurling competition and it was finished

Very disappointing to see how Paddy Kelly has been treated, a golden opportunity missed out by the CB in not appointing him. Paddy Kelly has proved himself both in Club & County. Paddy was by far a lot more qualified for the job than Martin Ennis, but maybe the CB does not want Hurling to progress in the County. Going forward the very best of luck to Martin & Co however I don't think they will be any further on this time next year.

In my opinion this decision shows the mentality of the County board towards Hurling in Meath. They do not care about the development of the county team and are quite happy to have a team slug it out in the Christy ring for a couple of weeks. No offence towards Martin Ennis, but the only reason Kelly did not get the job is that he would pose a serious challenge for the CB with his demands. and they would not be able to control him in the same manner that they will with Ennis, Although I hope I am wrong and that Ennis fights the CB for what is needed.

At the end of the day, Farrell left because the CB did not give him the resources or backing that was required. Expect to see the same rubbish happen next year. But nothing will change until Hurling Matters get more publicity in the county from the likes of HOGANSTAND, the Meath Chronicle and such.. We need a separate Hurling Committee and County Board to develop.

I wish Martin Ennis and his team the very best for the coming year.
