Senior hurling championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was at a few of the hurling matches over the weekend, few good performances but one that stood out for me was blackhalls on Friday. For the first 45mins of the match they controlled kilmessan and it was a tactical master class from them. I couldn't believe how much they had them on the ropes. Kilmessan just took over in end, score didn't reflect the match. There county players, Stevie morris & Shane whitty played very for them. Blackhall Gaels won't struggle if keep playing like this

Wouldnt read too much into it to be honest. Doubt Kilmessan have even started any seriuos training yet and can be bad starters anyway.
Blackhall have Killyon next who appear to be flying. That will tell you where Blackhall are.
Realistically theyre big match will be Na Fianna.

Also I noticed perry and Mckeown and Keegan were missing will need them if the wish to be serious contenders this year and Stephen Quinn coming on out field ??? Couldn't under stand that at all anybody have any idea on that as far as I know he was alway a goalkeeper ???

Stephens damaged his finger earlier in the year and is only back. He isn't regraded to play junior so was used out field as a sub to save other players for junior.

Round 1 over and Trim and Killyon have stood out with their performances all be it against poor opposition. Kilmessan effective as usual, Kiltale with good win v Dumboyne and Kildalkey showed their toughness to match Longwood physicality and grind out a win but what's going on with Kildalkey players, endless injury list!!! Round 2 soon I think.

I see still no fixtures for second round, I'm guessing the fixtures committee are in no rush, according the master fixture, it's weekend of 28th. If it was football, they would of been out 2 weeks before.

Kilmessan Kiltale and Kildalkey all struggled but they will be there at the business end of the championship. They all won without really playing all that well.

Trim and Kilyon are the 2 teams that could cause an upset and win it, particularly against the big 3 in the group stages.

Dunboyne and Longwood lack the quality forwards the above 5 teams have, and although they will be hard to beat throughout, they simply do not possess the scoring power to lift the jubilee cup.

I would expect Boardsmill and Navan to be competitive throughout the championship and their aim must be a quarter final, even though I feel they will come up short of this goal.

Off the remaining 3, Rathmolyan, Na fianna and Blackhall, Blackhall have the best hurlers and I believe they will remain Senior for a few years to come. Na Fianna are heavily reliant on the Slevins, as are Rathmolyan with the Cole brothers. Jack Fagan looks a real talent for rathmolyan and I believe that he, along with the Coles, can help Rathmolyan stay up with Na Fianna to be relegated.

Looking forward to the championship ahead.

Well any predictions for the weekends matches.

Killyon v Dunboyne. Killyon with big win last time out and seem to be flying. Dunboyne prob should have bet Kiltale should be tight but Killyon just

Na Fianna v Blackhall. Blackhall did well for long stages and will take heart. Na Fianna can only improve but not enough

Boardsmill v O'Mahonys. Boardsmill won but not overly impressive while navan did OK but never looked like winning another close one I'll go for a draw

Trim v Kildalkey. Another big game and the winner should top group. Kildalkey did enough to beat Longwood but they need to up it a bit here. Trim impressive in their win and progressing well but they might just come up short here.

Kiltale v Kilmessan. Both teams won but neither that impressive another tough one to call but I'll go for Kilmessan.

Longwood v Rathmolyon. Both teams losing first time out and will need to win here Longwood should have enough in the tank to win with a bit to spare.

Killyon v Dunboyne. Killyon to win, could be a tought team to beat til semi's! Dunboyne couldn't beat Kiltale last day when there for taking, typical Dunboyne.

Na Fianna v Blackhall. Na Fianna were terrible last day out, while Blackhall were good v Kilmessan, think Na Fianna will bit back here "Suarez" style and win.

Boardsmill v O'Mahonys. Let's face it, two poor teams going nowhere fast, dour draw a possibility.

Trim v Kildalkey. Intriging game here. Tough win for Kildalkey v Longwood while Trim dismantled Navan with ease. The Brendan Davis cup clash which Trim won was a cracker and I expect another here on Saturday but a Kildalkey win this time by a few pts.

Kiltale v Kilmessan. Two teams only at 50% yet so expect shadow boxing at this early stage, Kilmessan to win with Kiltale winning should they meet in knockouts.

Longwood v Rathmolyon. Longwood to win by 10 pts, Rathmolyon extremely poor.

Trim not a side to be messed with this year. Rumour has it Alan Douglas is home for four months next week, if true Trim could win championship.

Great game of hurling last night with Trim an Kildalkey. Draw would have being fair but couldn't begrudge Trim victory. Long year yet ahead and I was seriously impressed more so with Kildalkey style of hurling over Trim. Think Kildalkey will have a huge say on Jubilee destination yet.

How did Kilmessan manage to lose to Kiltale?? In control for the whole match, Kiltale showed zero intensity and still got the win!! Amazing Stuff!! Champo is wide open!!

Just noticed that in the next round of the championship, Trim Seniors and Juniors are playing at the same time in different venues. Have to say I feel that the fixtures planner has given them the short end of the stick there and its obvious that Trim more than will not field a junior team as a result. Although I'm sure they are purely focused on the senior, should all teams not be given the best possible opportunity to field a team?

Still trying to see how we blew a lead like that but have to compliment kiltale they will be the team to beat if all personnel are back hopefully we got the scare needed and will still have a major say
Was also in navan and agree with previous post a little more impressed with kildalkey than trim again when all return they will be there or there about
Trim are hurling well and scoring goals when needed also heard Alan Douglas is home in a few weeks who trim will need

Anyone have details from boardsmill and mahonys
Boardsmill are on 2wins also
That group not as clear as people think

Predictions for Round 3???

BHG vs Killyon - BHG
Rathmoylon vs Trim - Trim
Kiltale vs Na Fianna - Kiltale

Kilmessan vs Dunboyne - Very hard to call, Dunboyne coming off a great win over Killyon but still think kilmessan should have enough to beat them by few points.
Kildalkey vs Navan - Kildalkey easily
Blackhall vs Killyon - Tough to call, killyon were the form team but were very bad against Dunboyne. Blackhall will get confidence from win over Na Fianna and this could be enough for them to scrape past killyon.
Rathmolyon vs Trim - Trim easily, rathmolyon look destined for relegation playoff at this stage
Kiltale vs Na Fianna - Kiltale easily
Longwood vs Boardsill - Another close game. Cant see it being too high a scroing game which may come down to who scores the most frees. Slight preference for Boardsmill.

Kilmessan vs DunboyneKilmessan should win this but Dunboyne are fighting to stay in the SHC so will give it all. Kilmessan by 5 points

Kildalkey vs NavanNavan are having a very bad time of it and I fear it is going to get worse here. Kildalkey by 10 points

Blackhall vs KillyonBlackhall should have beaten Na Fianna by far more than 3 points in the last match and should take confidence from that. Killyon are a good team despite losing to Dunboyne last time out. Will be close with Blackhall perhaps shading it. Blackhall by 2 points

Rathmolyon vs TrimRathmolyon not playing badly but just on the wrong end of the first 2 matches. But Trim flying at the moment and should win easily. Trim by 8 points

Kiltale vs Na FiannaThis could be a massacre if Kiltale move up a few gears from the last match. Na Fianna need a win badly but will not come here. Kiltale by 15 points

Longwood vs BoardsillLike the other posts very difficult one to call. Longwood are tough to beat but Boardsmill going well on the back of the hammering they gave Navan. I think Boardsmill by 3 points
