Rankings

I see on the main pages of HS that Meath are ranked 14 in the All Ireland Hurling rankings! Is that higher than the football team?

Yes that would be about right. I'd put the footballers 16th/17th in terms of ranking.

Who cares? Rankings mean nothing unless you number one. Pity the hurlers won't be playing in top tier next year. I'm sure that would mean more than where they ranked.

It has been thrown at the hurlers for the last number of years how the footballers are competing at the top level. Truth is the footballers are miles off the top 10, like the hurlers but the county board will still egnore the hurlers in favour of a team that are getting pummeled in Leinster and impossible to look at.

I suppose when you take it theres about 10 real hurling counties (Offally just about hanging on as 10th) putting Meath 14th is about right. Our finishing position in NHL 2018 will be also give a good guide

on the football front finshing 3rd in Div 2 and going out in Championship to the higher ranked Kildare and Donegal should see Meath ranked between 10/12th. closer to 12th I think............I would say the eight Div 1 teams for 2018 are ahead of us along with Roscommon and we come in somewhere along with Cavan, Armagh Tipperary

Hurling has always been the second sport in county. We have had zero success in it. Footballers have 7 all ire 20+ Leinsters national league titles etc. If Meath hurlers ran Kilkenny this year (a pale shadow of themselves) to a 1 point defeat we would never hear the end of it. Yet when football does a comparable thing v Donegal it's a disaster?
I wish the hurling brigade well. But we have always been and always will be a football county. No point in complaining about it now

write it down and read it before you post it. Donegal are rubbish and we lost to them in navan. we are a top twenty team and that's about all.

Rankings are utterly irrelevant to me and always have been and will be, far more interested in seeing substance and improvement on the pitch than debating a ranking position, our U17 and Junior team winning a Leinster was far more important to me than ranking the senior team. But to humour the masses and put a bit of perspective on things there are three tiers in football at present, Dublin & Mayo are tier 1, Kerry & Tyrone are tier 2 and we are in good company with all the rest in tier 3 where mostly anyone could beat anyone else on a given day, might give the tier 2 boys a rattle but wouldn't go near the tier 1 boys so rankings from 1-33 are a nonsense as far as I can see as its irrelevant, our job is too reach above tier 3 starting with promotion to Division 1

Perhaps reading it might have helped you. Again I will say it clearer so you MIGHT understand. Kilkenny are useless/rubbish at the moment comparable to Donegal (which means similar) i.e. Donegal are also useless/rubbish. But if the hurler went down to kk we would never hear the end of it.
Is that wrote simple enough for you ???

kilKenny lost to Waterford by three points after extre time. Waterford got to the all-Ireland final. Donegal lost to a poor Galway team and lost to Tyrone by 15 points to then lost to Dublin by 12. your the guy that the Kildare game of a given. meath are very poor and Andy has not improved things one bit in my opinon

I agree that rankings are irrelevant but 3 of your tier 3 teams drew with 1 of your tier 1 teams in the championship this year so I would class that as getting near them!

Jesus what is ye problem? Ye have made progress under the mcentee brothers, any fool can see that.
Remember where ye coming from, a very low base. Rome wasn't built in a day. I would wager ye will achieve more over next 5 years than Kildare galway or tipp will ye win a all ire , no. Will ye be in super 8s, yes.
Calm the jets. This we want success immediately is total cr*p. Build, ye will find few better managers in country never mind in county than the one ye have. Give the man time to undo the mess he inherited and put his own stamp on it.

I live on the kildare meath border and i can testify that meath hurling is going in the right direction. most clubs on the kildare side of the border do well to get 15 lads out for a hurling team where as the lads in clubs on the meath side( na fianna rathmolyon longwood kiltale) love their hurling and can all field at least 2 teams. i can really see meath becoming a competitive hurling county in the next few years. Finally, i noticed that many of the meath senior footballers also play club hurling even at a junior level which for us in kildare is quite unbelievable as there is absolutely no chance our top footballers would tog out in a kildare junior hurling championship match

Now don't try to bring common sense to this argument. It just won't be tolerated:)
