Intermediate Football Championship 2017

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Couldn't find a thread for the IFC.
Seems to be anyone's championship this year. Ballinlough appear to be coming into form at the right time. While they're relegated in the league, they've won their last three in the league and their first two championship games.
St. Michael's have had a very good league campaign to date and got off the mark against Trim last night.
Dunderry and Castletown also have 100% records.
Walterstown (on paper) would be one of the favourites until their disastrous last game against Nobber.

If I was a betting man, I'd say the winner would come from Group A (Ballinlough, Michaels, Dunderry or Trim), but it's extremely difficult to call this year. Doesn't seem to be any clear favourite.

Was anyone beyont in Navan last night? Very poor display from Colmcilles. NOM made them look dreadful and they are not that bad. Couple fine long range points from B.Brennan and G.Reilly. Jays dont know whats going on with Biggy. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this??

After two games in, who does people think will come out of the groups?

I agree with Ratoath Royal. I think the winner will come out of Group A, lots of strong teams there.

I reckon Dunderry will top Group A closely followed by Ballinlough. on the fence about 3rd place but I think Michaels will get it.

Group B looks unpredictable. Initially I thought Ballinabrackey would top the group but a loss to Kilmainham won't help. I'd say Castletown will top the group followed by the bracks. I fancy Curraha to finish 3rd.

Group C is tough too. Surprised to see Ultans beat Walterstown as I thought Walterstown would be one of the top teams in the group. I fancy Oldcastle to top the group, and Nobber to finish 2nd. Unsure about 3rd but I think whoever wins between D/A and Walterstown in round 3 will push on and nick it.

Teams in danger of relegation? Ballivor and Longwood are bottom of their groups and are both div 4 league teams..they'll be getting a bit nervous if they can't pick up any points in the next round. Syddan also bottom at the moment surprisingly. Still a long way to go though.

only a kick of a ball between most teams, whoever wants to win it most probably will but very unpredictable.

Im gonna go for a Michaels & Dunderry final

Your boys must be disappointed losing last time out. I suppose Trim got a bit of a kick in the butt also. Michaels are a nice team but hardly have the panel to go senior. Dunderry maybe the best bet but I reckon Trim might beat them next day. Curraha or Castletown will be knocking too

Considering dunderry missing 4 or 5 lads till september (in the states i believe) they are still going well, they probably only team that could survive at senior level.Trim with their population (second biggest town in meath) are still intermediate 10 years now so their is obviously problems that need fixing but i see they have some nice young fellows coming through so maybe the time is near.

My own beloved bracks will hope they can get out of group and our next game is a 4 pointer but it will be a big ask to beat a young hungry curraha side,on a plus side we have some nice young fellows on the fringe and our second team going well so i will be hoping for bigger things in a few years time.

Whats everyones choice to win it? Having seen dunderry and trim, I don't think trim will go much further.would not be surprised if they don't advance from group. Dunderry have a few to come back into the team. Ballinlough tipping along nice, micheals to. Oldcastle look strong also.

The standard of refereeing seen last night was horrendous. Clear 45 waved by umpire in first half given as a point by ref and he never let the game go with soft frees. Dunderry looked very battle hardened but lucky to escape with a draw. This bides well for them as they have a strong task force to come back into the set up and are HUGE contenders. As for Trim, it almost looked like they were afraid to play and when there big players didn't step up they had nowhere to look. Very defensive minded and if they used Heffernan more , who is on his day one of the most talented in the county, they may have scraped this. All in all another year Trim left saying they could have won it, look to be going backwards.

To be fair hard game to ref, slot of off the ball going on.very hard to see into them goals sometimes with the trees and sun.linesman on fit out side was very poor.plus a lot of bodies on the sideline, taught it was going to kick off in the 2nd half.

probably more open than it has been in years. no real great side but a lot of decent sides. some win from d/ash's seconds to beat walterstown.

I'm not from Dunderry but I was at the Trim Game and I have to say if they get all the players that are missing back it's hard to see them being beaten. They looked a lot better structured and organised than Trim. On the Trim side some of their stars need to start standing up. Maybe they were missing a few also but if they weren't it's hard to see them winning an intermediate football in the near future unless things change.

Agree dunderry playing very well for missing a few off the team.them and ballinlough is a big game next time out. On curraha, they are not the biggest of teams and may struggle later on.

Have to give it to ballinlough.relegated in the league, come out and top group by far the youngest with a game to go.some character. can see them and dunderry meeting again by the year out.
