Meath U17s

Released released .... it's not the meath senior team. Them lads are part of the U17 panel now and not theU16. Devolpment squad.

Why should a couple of U16s miss out on what is their All Ireland final. The panel that has got them to the GR Final should now be entrusted to have a go and win it out.

I reckon the U16 management would trust their panel and would think the same

You have a point there alright , the 17s will definitely need them fit anyway from what I hear. Talking to one of the parents the other night at a SFC match and he reckons Tyrone are a serious outfit. Peter Canavan son plays 10 for them apparantley and is a brilliant young lad. He reckons they are much the same as meath as in few standouts but well balanced overall. So no harm really if rise lads don't play in the GR final , I

I agree. Also if the 3 u16s were put on the bench that would mean 3 lads who have been there since the start of the GR would miss out on being involved in the final. That would be extremely harsh on young lads.

Do you not believe lads can be members of a couple of county panels. EG Dual players or like the Dublin lad Archer who played corner forward on the Dublin U17&u18 teams? GR is not an All Ireland but is a provincial level cup and we havent won too many provincial trophies in the last 10 years.

It's not that but rather the fact that a couple of players during the round robin bit would now be sitting on bench for final which I don't think would be right

Good luck to both U16s and u17s. Fantastic to be discussing two Meath underage teams at this stage of competition. One with a trophy secured and looking to secure an AI Final place with another totally separate squad also into a Leinster final. Looks like a rich vein of talent coming through. Congrats to both squads and their management teams. Keep on winning lads.

Hear Hear , and I believe the U 15 management set up are on the ball too. Hopefully now we are getting a bit of structure at underage level that will produce the quality required to achieve at adult level going forward. Winning the Leinster at U 17 ( which is effectively minor now ) is a massive achievement and already a huge success. If they win the semi then it is a huge bonus but they have a winning mentality now ( both management and squad. Next up is the 16s if they can produce the goods on Sunday then we are really motoring in the right direction.

I only ever been to one u17 game in my life, which was the final in Drogheda, I taught the Meath backs where great some great displays of defending. reminded of how Meath used to defend years ago wining individual battle. I also noticed Martin O'connell seem to been organized the backs is MOC the backs coach ? Has he a big influence in the team ?

2-8 to 1-10. A one point loss, good fightback after starting 2-1 to 0-0 down. Hopefully the 17's fare better in their semi
