look we have a problem at underage,we seem too often look good at earlier ages and maybe leagues and such. but then come to minor and this type of thing happens alot. the question is,what is the problem? ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 06/05/2017 16:54:07 1984838 Link 4 |
He got it for 3 years so atleast he didn't just come in for minor. I don't think the previous manager Harford would get anything else out of this team. Let's not forget 1 starter on last years team. Only 3 really talented and consistent players who I want to see on the 20's next year and on the seniors in the future. Coyle did a poor job for championship but this team wasn't all that talented either

question is,why are we not producing? what are we doing wrong with the underage squads?

current u16's going well with traynor for a few years now,be interesting to see how they do in the new u17 champ. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 06/05/2017 17:28:03 1984846 Link 6 |
This is the first Meath minor team where quite a few of them never seen meath win an all Ireland. I firmly believe this filters down, all they know are Meath failing. And for the super talented lads soccer, rugby, athletics and even hurling are starting to have a pull factor.

true but you look at other counties who have had good underage success of late, like tipp, rossies, kildare, cavan in recent years,we must be doing something wrong.those counties don't have a huge history of success bar cavan a long time ago.. mind you monaghan don't do well at underage.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 06/05/2017 18:02:47 1984853 Link 5 |
the other question is.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 06/05/2017 18:40:33 1984859 Link 4 |
The guys with egg on the face are the ones that allowed 2 good Development squads be dismantled , no sorry , Oversaw the dismantlement of two good squads . They broke down the minor squad , annihilated the U 17 squad , sent the U16/17 squad into annual tournament after disecting the stronger players from that squad ( 10 I believe) to supplement the minors . Stopped the players from playing with their team mates in the tournament so that they could train with the minors ( How in hell is that going to build confidence) . Tells a number of players their not good enough to to play against Dublin in the Championship a couple of weeks before hand . How does that that build team or player confidence . All Ireland medals mean nothing as individual , because it's a team sport . Why do Meath COB continue to parachute All Ireland medal holders into County team positions . Barry O Callaghan , Colm Coyle , Micko Dowd . Etc Even Andy McE . It's frustrating watching the Denise of football in the County

Need to focus on developing trainers/managers. Devestating loss. For those of us who experienced the glory years of Meath football this is gutting bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1788 - 06/05/2017 19:50:36 1984866 Link 1 |
Callaghan's minors beat Dublin minors last year. The best result for the county at any grade in years. And Andy Mc was an incredible manager at minor and at every club he's been at. Don't know what the problem with Andy Mc managing is haha

Are you completely writing off the current U17 team about to play in their own championship

Not really sure the answer to that to be honest. Tough one to know. I always think it's better to have lads who won stuff underage as it gives believe. The 3 of this minor team for me are Walsh, Murphy, Clarke. Head and shoulders above the rest I think

Look to a degree I agree with you, I think Andy mc has proven himself in management, so ill exclude him, also the likes of fay and GG are doing the long road in training circuit, learning their trade. I would seek a continuous training course for any manager of a county team at any age. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 07/05/2017 06:24:47 1984903 Link 0 |
yes I agree . Thought that Murphy was our stand out player yesterday. Walsh is a very effective full forward one for the future and Frayne is a super finisher just didn't happen for him yesterday. These games are a real learning curve for these young players. Only real negative for me yesterday was I thought we were easily disposessed in the tackle area compared to Laois

I wouldn't think so , as stated this is the only group of players to win anything of worth in the last few years at Underage . However that may change

20th of the May Dublin under 17s v Meath under 17s , after the weekends result possibly puts a bit of pressure on your young lads , would you agree ? Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 08/05/2017 12:13:33 1985171 Link 11 |
