Outstanding performance this evening. Very few backs can curtail PMc, even on an off day. Don't know what lockout strategy Donegal played but MM seemed to win an awful lot of ball.

Very disappointing to lose by a point but certainly no disgrace, the lads battled to the very end and just came out the wrong side. It's very early days for this Meath team and we need to give them time.

sorry but i am fuming..

the lads gave it their all and proud of them, but some awful decisions from the ref, especially in the closing stages won them the game. clear push from murphy on menton lead to a score and a double hop for another late point.

Well that is a very hard defeat to take. Hard luck to the lads they give everything they had and there's a lot of positives to take from game heading into next year. Definitely put pride back in the meath jersey with that display.

But I'm sorry the ref was woeful towards us. Give donegal incredibly soft frees. Murphy got away with murder pushing menton and over carried several times. Andy was furious after the game and went straight for the ref.

Disappointing to lose by a point but it was an unbelievable effort from the lads, something I didn't see after last weeks performance. Credit must be given to management and group of players after the improvement since the Kildare game. It was great to see a Meath team that was going to leave it all on the field and most importantly looked tactically prepared which was lacking for the last couple of years.

I thought Conlon was very good for only his 2nd appearance and first start, didn't panic like you would expect him and gave a couple of beautiful passes, obviously he will improve with more games next year and I look forward to it. I thought Menton and O'Coilean were v impressive but the whole team deserve credit. Also even though POR did kick one away but I thought his kickouts were excellent, definitely improved on previous years.

Obviously a few things need to change for next year but there is no point talking about that so soon after a great effort from the team.

A marquee forward was the difference today in a very tight game, even though Donal Lenihan kicked some tricky frees under pressure. MM dominated midfield. Both sides had some bad wides and we gave away a few scores from mistakes that cost us dearly. It could have gone either way. The ref gave soft frees for both sides, even if Donegal felt hard done by in the first half. Credit to the lads for getting back on level terms at half-time and scoring a championship goal so soon after conceding one. Great block by McGill. Donegal had a stronger bench and a bit more quality that got them over the line. We just didn't have anyone to come off the bench late on and really make a difference. Overall, a slight improvement on last year (not much though), but we really need to strengthen the squad.

There were some curious ones alright ziggy but we'll have to see them back to know for sure, Donegal may argue that their first half goal should have stood. Also he's certainly not the reason we lost but it has to be said Paddy kicked 1 ball straight into the hands of a Donegal player and over the bar, handy point.

I don't realy like blaming referee's, over the course of the game things generally balance out and if you're good enough then you should win. We played well today and it's tough losing but there is the bones of a good team there and hopefully we can make progress next year.

Well done to the lads for giving it everything today. Most people didn't give us a chance...

Thought we got a fair bit of luck but the officials were awful. I thought we had a clear point early on which called for Hawkeye. How could they miss the Murphy push on Menton?!

I saw the future of Meath football today and his name is Brian Conlon-- I thought after a shaky start he grew in stature and was immense.

McGill had a very good game at full back.

Thought there was some good ball going into our forwards especially in the first half but we just didn't have the ball winners inside.

Fantastic response to the Donegal goal.

We need to find a new keeper and inside target man. I think one of our stalwart forwards is past his best.

Think we have the makings of a very good team.

Again...very disappointed with the officials today.

Fuming too. But so so proud of the lads.
We are on the right track. But we were robbed.

hard way to lose. Donegal were the better team throughout and only for bad shooting would have won by more. Couldn't understand why we weren't pushing up for there kick outs as they were able to handpass up the pitch and get a score or Free.

On the year as a whole, it has been disappointing. I thought we would have progressed more under McEntee.

Extra time would be fair and justified. Ref did Meath no favours. Exciting without quality. Two poor team well down the ratings. Promising for Meath i thought Mc Gill improving in no 3 shirt, {a good whole hearted tackler}..Conlon,a bit green, but has great potential. A midfielder with Jones I suggest. Menton in no 7. Donal Keoghan seems to have lost his cutting edge to some extent. Reilly scored a great point ,worked but poor in the tackle. For me can be frustrating mainly because of that. COS {a great worker}and Lenihan poor delivery to them ball fed in too high, P O Rourke not relable enough as a goalie [ 2 kickouts over the sideline, at least two straight to the opposition} Some very good free taking by Lenihan. Sideline changes made sense i thought. All in all better than i expected to day. To me Andy has done his best considering the playing pool.

We didn't push up because we where afraid to get exposed at the back. I push where we could thought.

I do blame referees, its my favorite pastime, But I agree above, I agree there was a few problems here and there taught ref blew very quick at the end. But in general I taught ref was ok, Some strange decisions but the game was there for us.

Not enough good players on the bench is the problem

Blaming the ref is nonsense, he was harsher on Donegal than Meath, that goal in the first half was never a square ball, the better team won no excuses.

2 points..........

it was so obvious Donegal players dont shoot outside P McB or MM yet we didnt do enough on either, Menton regularly left MM and chased another player when he should have never left MM side, they did a job on Reilly shadowing him everywhere and we couldnt do same to them and their 2 shooters, management were poor on this point, no one ran in both of those 2 guys ways or blocked them off the ball or did anything to try and put them off, far too nice

we just have no idea on the tackle when we drop players back, we retreat to our 45 and run along side other teams not actually doing anything and Donegal could drop a ball and get it again and we are not sharp or aggressive enough to seize on mistake, or else we just plough in and foul stupidly, happened near very end, when ball was lost by Donegal player and they regained the ball, we rarely win dirty ball, a sign of no raw aggression or hunger, too many nice players not hunting in packs making a turn over and Donegal were a team to do that to as they are the most lateral team u will ever see with 13 guys looking to be fouled running from sideline to sideline looking for a foul

That was a poor Donegal side playing away from home with 2 guys that can only really shoot and if MM had taken a few frees he missed it would have been a 3 or 4 point game

Reality does hit home if you want to analyse the game factually

things will not change until about half that team are gone and talent comes from somewhere, thats as good as they are today and Kildare was the real eye opener and 8 or 18 months training will not change that, no matter who u play and dont on that current panel
