Replying To Jinxie:  "To old apparently. Thank God the same wasn't thought of players in the past. Imagine geraghty having 10 years chopped off the end of his career.. Or brendan reilly. He'd have been retired without getting to score the winning point in 96."
If you look below I admitted I was a little harsh ! And to compare geraghty to mickey Burke come on !! Bit of comman sense !!

Why no Biggie he had a good league but once again he has not performed when it mattered in the championship. He getting on now and not much it going to change at this stage as sad as it is we just get get the best out of him. COS is kinda similar to Biggie. has massive potential but is hit and miss. Someone like Haran or Menton to get captaincy next year. Hopefully we can get another Conlon. I liked Kennelly in the OBC he going well for the juniors maybe he could make it next year. Hopefully Jones will be around next year. Mickey Newnam might be ready for next year too. I am optimistic about next year :)

Keoghan Mc Gill Burke
D Tobin Conlon Forde

Menton Rooney

Harnan Jones R O Coileain
Mc Mahon Leihnan J Wallace"
I'm not biggys biggest fan but wouldn't drop him ??

your dropping our captain and leaving paddy o rourke who again yesterday when we were two up 11 9 he kicked one over the line leading to a point , and then he kicked one straight out to a Donegal player over the bar killing us again

Thats just based on what Iv'e seen this year. Obviously the hope would be that some of the fringe players will up their game and force their way on to the team, or that a couple of new hidden gems will be unearthed. I wouldnt be over hopeful of that though.

It's a bit hard to decide on a team for championship at the moment, we don't know what lads will be around. My team is for the first round of the O Byrne Cup:

1. J Lynch (Moynalty)
2. M Flood (St. Brigids)
3. D O Neill (Wolfe Tones)
4. S Curran (Donaghmore/Ashbourne)
5. D Tobin (Blackhall Gaels)
6. B Power (Ratoath)
7. A Dougles (Trim)
8. A Flanagan (Clonard)
9. B Conlon (Simonstown)
10. P Kennelly (Dunderry)
11. J Toher (Trim)
12. R O Coileain (Navan O Mahonys)
13. T O Reilly (Wolfe Tones)
14. M Newman (Kilmanham)
15. S.Mattimoe (Kells)

We need to try out the O Byrne Cup next year to see lads who didn't get a lot of game time or weren't on the panel. We know what Burke, Keoghan, Reilly, Lenihan, McGill, Harnan, Menton can do and they should be all on the panel after that there is probably 20 spots up for grabs.

Agree 100% Burke has been without doubt our most consistent player all year, his heart and determination are what we look for in all Meath players, for me he is a cert on any starting team next year

The biggest lesson from this year will hopefully be learned by the management team. We lost that game on the line yesterday, small margins.

Not bring in reinforcements quickly enough and not concentrating more on the only real danger men (Paddy McB and Murphy) at the end. Burke also mentioned in an interview after the Sligo game they only worked on a new defensive system after the Kildare game, that's poor preparation.
Andy and team need to realise this isn't club football anymore.

Johnny Lynch. U-21/junior goalkeeper from moynalty.
To be honest, I would take just about any keeper who can kick a ball out consistently without landing a few out over the sideline or into a corner-forwards arms.

see this is part of our problem at underage too. we tend to lose our best player. jones and nash were our best players on a minor side a few years ago,but..

You have to conclude that Andy / Gerry didnt have any faith in the guys on the bench. Whatever happened following the league our tactical approach seemed to change and management honed in on a group of players and others may as well not have been there. I would expect most of those 'extras' on the panel last saturday not to be around next year. Either Andy wont want them or they wont see the point in 6 months training for virtually no games.
We will never know what impact fresher legs would have had on Saturday, maybe they would have prevented some of the latter Donegal scores but maybe some other errors would have occurred. My own opinion is that there were opportunities missed and good players underused.

However Andy Mc is our manager and will be for the next few years. A dedicated, hard working meath man who nhas achieved at a high level and I think he will learn from this campaign and we will improve.

Do you not think that Burke is just a tad ineffective when it comes to the most basic part of his role as a corner back? Even on saturday and the previous game against Sligo I could see his many being quicker off the mark and getting into a dangerous position. Burke was lucky against Sligo that he wasnt skinned a few times (his man dropped the ball) and on Saturday at least twice when I was watching his many beat him in a short sprint to the ball from a standing start. Against the better teams, this exposure is more obvious as there are more scores resulting.

When Burke makes his runs up the field, is it leaving too much pressure on Keoghan & McGill?

That said Burke is one of the few leaders on the team and is a great great warrior but our really great backs such as Robbie o'Malley & Darren Fay did the basic things right and that was their focus with only minimal bursts up the field.

by the way mcgill was outstanding the last day and had a consistent year imo. also the other ratoath lad brian power is underrated as a 6. he may not be flashy, but he understands the role.

Green thumb. Very impressed with McGill. Shaping into a very good full back.
