Meath U17s

Bit surprised there is not more about them on these pages. Wednesday was a serious result as this grade now becomes Minor. Lads over them have had only a short time with them. Results here will be measured as really this is not a Development squad anymore unlike the 14s, 15s, 16s where results are a bonus as coaches try out players to see what potential they have

Dublin minors into the Leinster final where they'll surely beat Louth, what could and should have been .. hopefully the 17's make up for it

Maybe the minors would have been there if the tactics on the day were not straight out of the Willy Wonka chocolate factory tactics book . I was there , the minor lads had fire in their belly's in the first half . the Full forward line was skinning the Dublin backs all was good ( battles been won everywhere) , they were 10pts up at half time . And then the management had a brain fart tactic , to take the Full Forward out to M/F , and also take off the corner forward who was terrorising the Dublin defence . a total breakdown of logic . ... The Minor team this year would in my opinion ( and of others) have won Leinster but for some very strange tactics been imposed . Indeed a friend of mine with the Dublin Minor crew , told me they were totally flabbergasted on the Meath tactical moves . What does that say . If its not broke , don't try to fix it . Leave it alone. It was a sad day .....

Carlow at home in the Leinster quarter, as good a draw as they come. Still have to win it and Carlow only lost to Kildare by 5 but no excuses here

Dubs vs Westmeath in Parnell Park, Kildare vs Wexford in Newbridge and Laois vs Longford in Portlaois

Ah lads young swaine tried to flatten the dub midfielder but came off worse and had no influence on game after that is why Walsh came out the middle as it appeared we had no other midfield option and that indeed was right as was proved v Laois
The lack of a decent 6 was the problem as dub 11 did all the damage including the goal that if it could have been defended would have seen meath win

some truth in that, management weren't great that day, but the team lost to Laois. They were a good team with some good forwards but had a lot of holes in the team. Think we are overrating them a bit still

we sat back in that 2nd half and played a sweeper. the young lads didn't know what they were supposed to be doing. no out ball either. not one to blame managers every time a team loses, but they were to blame that day. the lads lost confidence by the time laois came along.

2-19 to 0-4 against Carlow, as dominant as one could hope, anyone at this game tonight?

That's a paddling. Looks like Morris and Walsh were the standouts

Yeah I was at it. Took a while for Meath to break down a defensive Carlow only scored 6 points in the first 26 but kept chipping away. Our backs were well on top and stopped their attacking threat. They did get the better of us at midfield so that was worrying. Morris, Walsh, McBride, Byrne and Courtney the stand outs

Ah it was as comprehensive as it sounded IMO. Carlow were very poor, held 2 sweepers back every time they attacked when playing with the strong breeze.
